Snow and Mowing Pricing

I was out doing snow yesterday and ran into one of "Mr Fly By Night" customers. This women in her 70's walked down about a half block to me when I was doing one of my regular snow customers and asked what I charged I told her and asked why she wanted to know. Turns out Mr Fly By Night has a real job and can only get to her (and his other customers)when he's done but she needs to get out of her drive. I told her I would do it when I was done. I asked her what she pays and she said $ 25 for snow and $25 for mowing, my charge is $ 35 for all my other snow and mowing customers. The driveways are 20x20 with not alot of walks and the lots are 5 K. and it's 3blocks from my house. I finished the job, thanked her gave her my flyer and card and pointed out i'm licensed and insured. As it is Mr Fly By Night has about 10 customers in that area. Mr Fly By Night uses a snow blower and a rider drops the gate and mows and blows. I don't use a plow but a snow blower and a 21" toro walk behind for mowing and I can always get a 31". My buddy thats in the bussiness said hell yeah drop your price especially if you get 10 customers so close. So drop my price on both for thesse small properties? I know I sell other services that they need in the future like lawn fert (he's not a licensed applicator so he farms it out). All I want are small properties 5k and 10k within 10 miles of my house.

Lawn care business tips

If you were charging more and still got the customer. What makes you think you have to be cheaper? When spring comes around and the neighbor asked why did you switch and she says the other guy wasnt there when I needed him or this guy does a better job. Thats a selling point right there. You just proved that you didnt have to compete on price. It might speed up the process to acquire the customers but then again it might not. From my own experience every customer I ever had that haggled about the price was a headache until I dropped them.

Did you get the job for $35? Why would you want to drop your price to $25?

That is a 28% decrease in price.

Are you thinking you will quickly sign up these other customers if you market a lower price?

2 customers at $35 = $70
3 customers at $25 = $75

Is it worthwhile dropping your price to work on three properties and make $5 more than if you worked on two ($35) properties?
