This is the type of question that needs to be asked to a shoe specialist- not other lawn contractors. Everyone's foot is unique in and of itslelf. Some of us have high arches, some of us have wide feet and so on. Running shoes are made for running which is not what you want when you cut grass. You need support more along the lines of a cross trainer. In reality, you need a boot for a variety of reasons. What would you do if your foot ever got under the deck of the mower accidentally? Dont think it cant ever happen- it can. A boot has a higher probability of protecting your toes than shoes do. Remember often times the terrain will vary from property to property. So, you might walk along even ground one hour and the next you could be on a hill or in a lawn that is very rough. You will get used to boots over time- the United States Marine Corps wear boots all day long and run through woods and rivers and creeks with 90+lbs back backs so you will be just fine with a trimmer or a blower or a mower even if you do it all day. You can get various inserts in the boots and if you dont like what is readily available like a dr shols then you can have a specialist make inserts for you based off of a mold that they take of your foot. Tennis shoes, running shoes dont belong on your feet when you are outside working.

Lawn care business tips

For years I have worn Metal Cleat Baseball Shoes when push mowing or weed eating on steep inclines especially creek and pond banks. Other wise it is leather work boots. When have all day mowing on the tractor I wear Dr. Scholl work shoes. I used to wear Soccer Shoes, but by season end the cleats would be worn down and the shoe had no foot hold .
