Years ago I ran an online tropical fish business. I sold tropical fish and food on the internet. It wasn't anything small by any means. I was doing runs to the airport to pick fish up from Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, and various breeding farms around the US. I shipped fish to nearly every state in the US and a few places in Canada.

I had to use online advertising, thats the only way it worked. I had to get my name out there. I had facebook, twitter, facebook ad's, youtube, google ad's and a few more.

Facebook and twitter I considered them the same. You can link your twitter to your facebook, which made it easy. Whatever I said on facebook would go to my twitter. This method was decent, but took up time trying to market to people. Some people think your spam and don't want to associate with you. Theres a large amount of spam going around on both of these. I'd say over time, it would be a useful tool, just keep updating it and always looking for new clients. If it's free, it wouldn't hurt to try it.

Facebook ad's....I pulled the plug on that before the big motor companies did the same. It generated NOTHING for me. Waste of $$$.

Google ad's was the best. I did a set daily budget. The CPC (cost per click) I found to be a waste. Obviously the more you pay the better placement you get. My competitors could sit there and click away driving my bill up. This way no one knows my daily budget but me. You can run your ad's at certain times, and market to a specific area. You can also look at a report to find out when the most activity is going on. Depending on the size of your area, between $5 and $20 a day should work. No need to keep it up all the time 24/7....run it a few weeks and stop a few weeks.

I didn't use youtube, but my customers did. I would give out sample bags of fish foods to try, and in return my customers would make youtube videos reviewing the product. This was a great/fast way to get my name out there. It worked out really well. Not to mention, the customers all speak for themselves.

With all the online advertising now, you can really get your name out there fast. As longas you maintain your facebook and are constantly networking, it will do great for you.

that is all good info and thanks for the reply.
i heard from a lot of people the advertising on facebook was a waste and the only thing i heard good about it was to use it for a few days or a set small budget to bump up your likes.
i still will resist doing the ad on facebook because i have not seen any proof that is effective and i have so many nieces and nephews and friends in general all i had to do was let them all know what i needed and they all visited my page and hit the like.

i told my niece on saturday and she got me 21 likes that day alone.
i must say that as soon as i made the facebook account and got some likes i saw it pop up in the search engine immediately.

i will probably get the adwords going early next week and one other thing i would mention is that i contacted google and asked them about the same thing you mentioned about competitors clicking on my ad's to blow my budget and they told me that if it were a year or two ago that would be exactly right but they have since straightened that out and unless you erase your cookies after each and every click they can not just sit there and just click on and off to run you up.

that is what the say and i guess we will have to wait and see to find out if it is true or not but i do know that you now get a dashboard or something like that to view who has been looking at your ad's.

i guess if i see one of my competitors doing that i will have to make a midnight run and slash some tires or visit them in their sleep.

ha ha just kidding.
