I have a big truck but a little sander (I would get a big one but don't want to tie up my bed all winter and need it to care snow blowers). I also don't have storage during the summer

My next truck will be a dedicated worl/plow truck so keeping a spreader in it all winter wont be an issue. I have big plans for next year.

You guys dont even need a vbox. You can get a tailgate spreader that hold up to 1500lbs. Thats plenty enough.

I have two, one holds 700lbs and the other 1000lbs. The 700lb spreader is on a 1500 too. Its easier for me to keep logs about how much salt was used then with my v that has over 3000lbs in it.

A problem I'm having despite having vibrators is wet sand clogging up the spreader. Its mostly in storage that it happens. I know salt/sand will collect moisture even when covered but I'm working on fixing 2" of water on top of the pile. I tried totes, tarps to no avail.

I'm about to make a salt box. I'm thinking 4x4x1. Just a simple box with a latch, that will hold a yard. This way in between storms the salt wont be exposed and ill have enough on hand to refill the spreaders. This will keep it out of the bed also.

Been reading the various posts. I purchased my truck, plow, and spreader last year. Then, it didn't snow a lick. I sold more contracts than I could possibly service. In order to perform, I hired a sub to just plow. We handled all of our accounts and still had room for another 1 or 2. We are charging $150 an hour for production. My sub charges me $60 an hour with his equipment. Only performing commercial and subdivision clearling, residential doesn't allow the hourly rate that we need to be profitable. Don't underprice yourself and don't be afraid to turn down work.
