Default Let's make a Lawn Care Biz Documentary

I was thinking it would be really cool to make a lawn care business documentary movie. This could be something everyone who wanted to take part in, could. It would be a great way to tell your stories and create a time capsule for all of us to look back at and reflect how far we have come.

In a hundred years, we will all be dust. All the grass that was mowed will not remember who mowed it. But hopefully your story will live on with this documentary! So please answer the questions and take part in the documentary.

I have a bunch of questions I will post, that you could answer in front of your camera. You could also take some video footage of you out during the day mowing and just doing your daily tasks. Then either send it/email it/post it online, so I can get it. If you have any questions, let me know. I look forwards to hearing what you have to say.

Lawn care business tips
The ideal goal is to make it a real reflection of what is going on right now. As far as video quality goes, we will just make due with what we have to work with. As far as audio quality goes, the less background noise the better.

I will have a bunch of questions that take the viewer through a timeline of business creation to where you want to be in the future. If you can answer them in quiet environment, everything should work well. I can also have some of the dialogue used over some shots of you outside mowing or doing other things.

There won't be any pay involved and I will have some release that can be signed to deal with all that. I just want to keep this simple, entertaining, and educational as well.

I know there are some members that would love to take part and share their story and I think this would be a great way to do it. We ultimately only need a few members to take part and this will turn out fantastic. I think it will be inspiring to create and inspiring to watch. This project is open to everyone, whether you are just getting started or have been in the business for a while. No matter where you are with your business, your thoughts, experienced, and insights are uniquely yours and will be fantastic to watch.

Let me get these questions on here so if anyone has any ideas on how to improve it or cover something I didn't cover, we can do that. These are the questions you could set your video camera up to record you as you answer them. Hopefully somewhere with little to no background noise or music.

Questions to answer: (click the link to answer to question)

1. People want to see you get by, but not by them. Before you got your business started, did you have to deal with any friction, negativity, or problems from others you had tried to bounce your business ideas off of? How did that effect your business development process?

2. Getting started. What steps did you take to get started? Which did you find were easy and which were difficult?

3. What equipment were you using early on? Do you have any pictures of it you can include? What have you since changed with your equipment and why?

4. Your first customers. How did you get them and how did they work out for you?

5. What were some of your early set backs and how did you get passed them?

6. What kinds of costs did you have getting started? Looking back now, could you have handle it in a better way? If so, how?

7. What was the point where you felt your business was going to work?

8. Why did you get your business started? Was there any personal history or background to it?

9. Do you feel you have made it yet? What do you feel defines that and how will you or do you know when you reach that point?

10. How have competitors effected you? Did they play any dirty tricks on you and how did you overcome it?

11. How did you make the transition from full time employee to full time business owner?

12. How did your marketing change over time?

13. What is your worst customer story? How was it resolved and what did you learn from it?

14. Looking back now, what would you have done differently so far with your business?

15. What are some of the biggest mistakes you see other start ups make and what should they do differently?

16. Where do you see yourself in a year, 5, or 10?

17. Do you have any funny or interesting stories you have experienced through your business?

I was very tired, but I don't think I could do any better at the moment.

I used my computers webcam lol.

I suppose the video itself is still great for splicing. I say the questions out loud (the best I could) so that we know where we are on the list of questions

I couldn't talk too loud because I've got a sinus infection

I also didn't edit the audio properly. I wanted to get this up sooner than later lol...

Whatcha think?

Scott that is OUTSTANDING! FANTASTIC! I love it!

It's exactly what I was thinking of when I had an ideal in mind. I think what makes it great is that it's real! It's honest and all of us watching it are going to connect with it and laugh where you laugh and cringe where you cringe because the experiences you have are shared by others by rarely talked about. That connection is what will make everyone want to watch it from beginning to end.

I do hope this inspires other members to take part because if we get just a few more interviews like this, we will have something that will be awesome.

Scott, do you think you could also try to answer the questions on the forum as well? I just posted the first question here.

Your responses to the questions doesn't have to be word for word what you said in the video, in fact it can expand upon what you said if you want. I think having it answer in type may allow us to look into the answers further and build onto the discussions from there.

Travis, excellent job! I really appreciate you putting that together for all of us and being an inspiration to those who are still on the fence about starting their own business.
