No idea. I never tip it filter side down to clean under the deck and I've never had an issue before with it stalling out when running across a hill filter side down.
Anyone who says that "you CAN'T run it across a hill that way" has never cut a lawn in western Pennsylvania. You don't have much choice in the matter. Every lawn has a hill/slope somewhere on the property.

Also, oil didn't "run" out the filter the rest of the day. It looks like the bottom is wet, but no more pools of oil on the deck. (literally - I should post the pics)
I also had very few hills to deal with on the rest of the lawns - none that I couldn't cut going up and down instead of across.

I'd like to see the position of the air filter when you are on any of these slopes. That is very interesting.

Anyone have any thoughts?

I haven't had oil come literally pouring out again like it did when I first mentioned it, but the filter, which was brand new, is now completely saturated, and when you take the cover off, and remove the filter, the air filter housing is visibly "wet".

As for seeing the angle/position of the mower, just imagine it viewed from behind with the air filter on the "down" side. Picture any angle from "very slight", to "holy crap, that's almost too steep to go across".

The shortest run being about 10 feet with the longest being 50 feet.

Like I said - I've not had this issue in a season and a half of use, so I'm not sure what is causing it.

Today I had 4 lawns to cut using the old Toro.

Lawn one - no issues with oil/stalling. (same lawn as when it stalled last Monday)
Today I only ran across the slope with the filter on the upside though.

Lawn two - no issues.
I only had to run across a short slope and the rest of the lawn was able to be cut "up and down" the slightly sloping front lawn.

Lawn three - Massive cloud of white smoke from the exhaust when I started it. WTF?
I ran it for a minute in the hope that it would stop, but it just kept blowing out white, choking, smoke. I shut it down and went home.

white smoke is oil burning. For some reason theres to much oil being burned off and it cant keep up with it so its passing into the filter.

I have a recycler that smokes like it has to much oil. Goes away then shuts down in use and wont restart. After 20 mins or so it runs again. I never fixed the problem just threw it in the shed to die.

You ever figure this out? I have kohler that is dripping gas from the carb when slanted to much. Not to big of a deal if the exhaust pipe wasnt directly below the carb.

No. I haven't had a chance to ask anyone and no money to drop it off at the dealer.

I can tell you my Toro with the Honda engine is HORRIBLE for gas running out the air filter. Does it much worse than the B&S on the older mower ever did.
Not sure how the heck you're supposed to mow a hill with one.

Heh. The new season is here.

I got the Toros out the other day to make sure they were running OK.

I ran them both for about a half an hour. The one leaking oil last year didn't do it now - lol
I even ran it while tilted filter side down. Go figure.

I'm sure it will crap out on me when I need it.
