Default what would you charge for garbage removal

I got a call a few days ago from a guy that wanted some garbage bags removed from his property. He said his trash service had stopped running 2 months ago and he had about 60 to 80 bags of trash he wanted hauled off. I told him it would be $3.00 a bag to haul off and dump. He said that was ridiculous, that the trash service only charged $1.00 a bag and that he would find something else.

I'm curious what you would have charged. My thinking was this trash has been sitting for a couple of months so it's probably pretty rank. I'll have to pay to dump it, and then wash off my trailer. Does $3.00 a bag sound too high?

Lawn care business tips
The transfer stations up here charge more for garbage then anything else. I think its around $100 a ton. So knowing that I would charge higher then any other debris.

I wouldve looked at the load. Guessed the weight and seen how much room it would take. I cant really say per bag.

Although you can probably get away with it, most places require you to be licensed to haul someone else's trash to the dump. The reason that they charge $1 per bag is because they are picking up thousands more along the way. For you this is a one time job. I think that you were low.

Heres my input...because...my full time job is infact a trash man. I work for a large hauling company, and I know a thing or 2 about trash. Usually when a trash company stops showing up, its because he/she stopped paying. They can't get a new hauling company because they are locked into a service contract. That would be my first warning sign...collect payment up front!!!! Now onto your question...if he was to find someone else, like a trash company, they are going to charge him a crazy price because its considered a bulk pick up. Or he's going to have to pay for a roll off box AND a dump fee. 99.99999% of transfer stations have a scale, so they will weigh the load to determine price (priced per ton). So in the end, its very hard to figure out how much to charge because its based on weight. As a good guess, I'd say for normal household trash charge $4.50 per bag.

I wouldnt do it for under $3 a bag. The guy is crazy. Plus your right who knows how long that sh!t has been sitting there. Good luck to him trying to find someone to pick that up for under $300. Cheap@ss.

Thanks for the input. I priced it at $3.00 a bag because I thought it was a more than fair price. Mowing has been slow the last few weeks so I thought I could make a few bucks on this, but if he thinks he can get it cheaper more power to him.

I used to work commercial maintenance taking care of shopping centers, so i've done plenty of dumpster enclosure cleanouts where i filled a16' trailer full of garbage because the center manager didn't pay the disposal fees that month. My price seemed right to me but as stated above "cheap@ss".

Oh and I had thought the same thing about payment up front. Theres gotta be a reason they aren't picking it up any more.
