It is not just a problem in lawn care. I have over 2k in outstanding invoices at the moment. The difference is that I can shut off their sites. Kinda hard to glue the grass back on.

i feel your pain i was mowing for bank of America i had 4 of them with a 12 month contract with mulch, hedge trimming , no snow removal . i thought jackpot this would be extra $ in the off season well i mowed two months then i started getting calls of damage to the property from the last contractor did to the property my reply to this was do you see any green paint on the poles ? NO ITS RED PAINT " i run john Deere mowers " well you did it the damage wasn't there before you came i tried to argue with them then why dont you check the security tape to see if hit the poles they never replied to that it is now mid July still no money im out a couple grand now cause this ... to make things worse i mow for people that live out of town they fell behind on payments then they sent a rubber check ... this year sucks as far as trying to collect money and the heat and the drought sucks too hope things work out for ya

Heh. People can call me a hack all they want because I collect at time of service.
No collection problems for me though.

I have had a bumper repair business for 14 years and not once have I not got paid. When I go to a new client I tell tell them up front I need a check by the time I get here the following week. Maybe not in the same exact words. BUT No one and I mean No one can let their bills go for over 30 days. Try that with a credit card, bank, utilities anyone that is in business gets paid at least 30 days out. Tack on interest to the bill after 30 days then don't do any more work till you get paid payment (it is no more than fair, no hard luck story nothing If they can't pay one time why do you think they will be able to pay another time. If I don't get paid once it is their fault. If I don't get paid twice it is my fault . End of story. I don't need dead beats
