I had a friend that bought a cub cadet residential mower. The first season he loved it and bragged. With the money he saved he bought another. The first mower didnt last 3 years and the second almost made it 4. He replaced 2 hydro pumps, a deck that bent, the handles broke, and a mess of other problems. He ended up buying a walker stander.

I bought a used Zmaster for $5200 and in the same amount time only replaced tires. Then I wanted another ZTR. I seen a bunch of the residential mowers for like $1000 so I tried a residential Ariens, Timecutter, and Husquarvana but they were all the same. I ended up buying a Great Dane and so far have had no problems.

Pretty much in the long run I spent way less then he did and never had a mower go down. There not that bad for small yards but when you start dealing with multiple acres they just dont cut it and they go about half the speed as a commercial mower. Anyone that ever used both should be able to tell its just a lawn tractor in a zero turn body. Its even made with the same parts.

As far as bagging I have people who wont pay extra for it until it starts to accumulate. Then they complain and I say well its this much more. What I do in early spring is bag one week and then mulch the next. This seems to keep it under control till late may when I dont need to bag at all.

A 60 inch Z with bagger system was 10,500 at the dealer. I am paying almost 400 a month for it. It has a 3 year bumper to bumper. I mow with it for three years and sell it in the fourth year. If it cost 10 grand I really try to get at least 7 grand for it but will go down to 6 grand. That's about a grand or so per season and it's always in good shape.

My first Toro Z was a 52 inch with a bagger system. I drove the wheels off that thing. It was my main work horse for the first 5 years. After the 7th or 8th year I was putting 2 to 4 grand a year into it just to keep it running ok. I still have it but now it just mows the lawn at my house. Once in a while if we get behind I'll put it in the trailer. It has about 9,000 hours on it and still runs strong.

Thanks, I needed a trailer, my truck isn't big enough to put a mower in my bed.

I got a great deal on the trailer though, so I was pretty lucky with that, and the push mower my mom gave to me because she never uses it.

I live in PA and I have never once bagged any grass I have mowed, and it always looks good. The only problem I have had is if its a little damp and gets clumpy sometimes.

Most of the time when I'm trying to sell a job face to face the customer will ask if we bag it. I say only when we need to.

A few of my customers that are on the high end side. The ones that water every day and have True Green fert all the time and have the garden people and the pool people. You know the type. Just the thought of blowing grass clippings into their mulch is enough to give them a heart attack. lol.

In the spring I think you can save a lot of time if you just bag it. In the fall it's a great way to do fall clean ups. I don't even have a rake on my trucks.

I am going to need to buy a bagger for fall, all I have is a sweeper, I don't really want to spend 500 bucks on one, but I guess I have to.

I need to find a picture of my truck and trailer the second year i was in business. i had a 2 door blazer 4.3 v6 engine towing a 6.5 by 12 trailer with a john Deere ztr and a 48 inch bobcat.
my suspension and rear tires took a real beating.
i still have the blazer as a spare vehicle, with a new in house paint job.

i do not bag the grass but i do blow it off the grass. we use mulching blades and then ground blowers. it reduces the amount of grass pick up by about 80-90 percent.

I think i'm going to look for a bigger truck for next year, if this year goes well.

How do you all do your fall cleanups? I have a lawn sweeper, and was thinking of getting the mulch attachment for my lawn mower.

Then just drive over the leaves and mulch them and sweep them up. When the sweeper is full take it over and dump it on a tarp on the ground. When im done with the job, fold the tarp up and tie it, and throw it in the bed of my truck.
