what about lead or other heavier metals? though it doesn't get much heavier then lead barring uranium XD steel is pretty light compared to other high density materials.

Lawn care business tipsLawn Care Business Book
I made my first one and it worked ok but it just wasn't heavy enough. Here is what it looked like...Photobucket

So after thinking about a PVC one and going through all the hassle of making it and making sure it didnt get snagged on anything on a customers property, or get caught under the deck, I decided I would just bite the bullet for the Factory Made one. It's very expensive, $400, but after I mounted it on and used it just one time I could instantly see a huge difference in how much better it stripes. I'm not saying the PVC or a rubber flap isn't going to work, they do, but the factory made one that fits my Scag mower is spring loaded and presses the grass down so well, I'm glad I went with it. I paid for it in a weeks worth of mowing so I figured I'd be better off and it'll look more professional to go that route. Here's how the factory on looks on the machine

Dont Mow to the dirt either....keep a little length to allow the grass to lay in that direction. Although Im a fan of stripes / making ingenious things like this, I dont like this pvc thing Ive been seeing. it looks awkward, goddy and tacky. you might as well wear golf shoes for aerating too. I know youll be offended but I am entitled to my opinion!! lol

LOL. Well I modified it a bit to look more 'proper' and less of a piece of crap hahaha. (still a piece of crap though)

BUT STILL, the damn thing is just a disaster. I didn't spend more than $20 on the entire thing, so it was worth a shot.

ALL IN ALL: PVC unfortunately SUCKS!

I'm a fan of putting 1000 screws into everything, but screws and pvc don't work. I had to put wood inside the tube in order to keep the hooks from ripping off.

When I adjusted the chain, the length was perfect to the point I would never run over the pvc, that was the only good thing that came out of this.

I'll take a pic maybe tomorrow of what the final modification looks like, and you guys can be the judge. Personally, I can't wait to throw it all out lmao.

PVC works, your just not using enough weight. It has to be heavy enough to bend the grass. Get a 3" or 4" PVC pipe and I bet you a coffee it works.

I spent less then $10 on mine but I spent some time finding out what does and doesnt work first.

use an Iron pipe instead of ABS Wastepipe. lead flashing is REALLY heavy too.
