Default American Flag Markeketing

I was thinking about this and though it would not only be a good marketing idea but also promote pride in our country. I was thinking maybe twice a year (memorial day and 4th of July) to promote a 10% off to customers who put up an American flag in their yard or on their house. Has anybody done anything like this and do you think this would be a good idea? Also would the 10% off be too much or should I offer some other incentive. This is my first season mowing and any input would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Steve

The flag flies out on my porch, unfortunately Im the only one on my block. Id like to say this is a good idea but truth is, there are so many ignorant people with different views about everything. If they dont have a flag already...then Im sure theyre not gonna spend more than their 10% their saving with you to buy one. I have a huge following with Indian customers, I swear they have their underground version of Angies list...( I must be cheap! ) and I am trying to picture pitching this flag thing to them, a big awkward situation.

There are many reasons that people do not fly them like home owners associations. They can be worse than the government in telling you how you can live.

You can also add Veterans Day to that list.

How about you take that 10% and buy them a flag. I am sure that it will be cheaper in the long run especially if you buy in bulk.

How about you keep the flags and just put them out on those holidays? You can also add a military service flag if you happen to know what branch of service they were in. This would be a good addition to Memorial and Veterans Day.

Here are some quick places that I found. I am sure you can find like the stick flags in bulk. Or you could just buy them the kit in the second link.

@apex that's true didn't think ahead of the situations where I will have a block of Indians and try to explain to them this concept haha.

@the cleaning doctor, great idea I think I might have to use this technique Ill buy me own then take them back for new holidays. I know a few combat vets from Vietnam and they proudly fly their colors. I would love to see more people proud of old glory and flying her high...its make me sick sometimes that Marines and Soldiers are dying for this flag but a home owner cant buy a $20 flag and have their landscaper install it. And for the homeowner association dont even want to get into that. But thanks for the feedback ill will absolutely look into buying my own flags and lending them out and thanks for the research.

I forgot to add that on the 4th of July I would use the American Flag only but in Memorial and Veterans day you might try adding the POW MIA flag instead of the service flag.

I'm going to be brutally honest;

No one is going to get their spirits up because their lawn guy will give them a discount. Hell...now a good flag costs $20-$40 easily. If they don't already have one they won't do it.

I really don't mean to be the bear of bad news here at all. This marketing idea is unique, thoughtful, and I respect it seeing as my father was a rescue swimmer for 25 years... but what is it really doing to help YOUR BUSINESS?

Is it going to increase sales? I don't see anyone getting SO excited about your 10% discount that they go tell all of their buddies to sign up.

Will it boost customer satisfaction? well...probably not that much. To the veterans? yeah, but civilians? They won't blink twice.

I think your money would actually be better spent on a local paper ad. Now....I NEVER recommend newspaper advertising....but I see potential here. I would try running an ad before these holidays with an incentive to sign up an account with you.

My company works directly with the VA clinic here and on these american holidays we offer all kinds of freebies to the veterans. Let me tell ya....a veteran takes 110% advantage of any discounts thrown to them.

Any of these specific holidays would be a great time to get a whole bunch of flags and put your business card through the pole. Then stick them into the ground in your area. It would really liven up the area and help you get your marketing message out. Maybe you could even put some sort of limited time offer available on the back of the card?
