Thanks that entirely depends on what your soil is like and what grasses you cut. If you are in my climate zone I can help you otherwise my advice would be worthless. It could also be worthless if they person has not tried all of the options as well though....

In my opinion I think any decently fertilized yard should stripe. I put a striper kit on my mowers and my yards look great. I wouldn't think too much about it, all it is, is the way the grass blades are being pushed and where the sun is positioned. Have the sun at your back when looking.

Yard looks great! Thanks for the replies I'm just starting out and don't know the tricks.. The yards I have mowed has been fair grass with some clovers and small weeds mixed in the grass.. I'm thinking really good healthy grass would make a differnce on the way it stripes. I have the factory blades on my mower,, cuts great but want to make sure it is perfect.. Like the striping kit idea..

You can buy a striping kit but at $300-400 they are expensive for those of us just starting out. I made my own with about $40-50 from a rubber floor mat and some nuts and bolts.



I've used it 3 times on my own yard and its doing a fairly decent job. I still want a springloaded Strip kit when I can afford it but for now this works and was cheap to put together!

Do blades have any effect on stripes in lawns or is that all just dependent on pressing down the lawn in a uniform direction?

I personally feel it's more just pushing the grass in each direction than different blades, but then again I haven't used any other blades. If you "train" the grass to fall in opposite directions, thats where you get the "white and green" to show. I think the type of grass has more to do with it than blades also.

Just my opinion!!!!
