If this is something you want to do you should work for a high end lawn care business for a summer learn all you can (well getting paid) and read everything here. OR you could do what I did and jump in

if it is something you plan on doing the rest of your life i would suggest working for someone for a few years first.

there are many benifits and reasons why, first off you can learn at someone elses exspense.
second, you can get experience in many area's of the trade as well as if the particular company you work for does applications you can learn all about that and get a license as well for example.

third, you will actually make more money and be able to build up your finances and even establish credit so when you start out on your own you can actually buy real equipment and look like a professional.

lastly, you might find that after working for someone that you may not want to do this trade for a living considering how competitive and cut throat it is .

at your age time is on your side and many people jump into the fire and more often then not fail because of that.

i been at it a long time, 28 years to be exact and this is my 23rd year in business and i worked for someone for a few years to get my feet wet and during that span i not only learned everything about the industry i also got all my licenses and certifications before i even started my own business and that paid dividends.
i was also able to save my money and develop a solid plan so when i started i had everything i needed to start me on the path to success.

this industry can be profitable but only if you know what you are doing and have the resources and experience and by going into it with a wing and a prayer can usually spells disaster and at your age i can commend you on the goals you want to acheive but at the same time don't let the lure of making a quick buck fool you into starting something that you are unprepared to do because there is no easy way about this business and there are no quick bucks to be made because it is a marathon not a horse race.

also, if your freind is a good freind that you want to keep don't go into business together because as much as you think the both of you have in common you will find out real fast the hard way how different you really are.

after all these years i can tell you that from experience that freinds and business never work out and don't even hire your freinds, it never works out.

Your young. If I were dont work for someone else because no one likes bosses. Just take it on as a side thing during highschool and college. You'll enjoy it and learn a lot.

Get a lawn mower, trimmer, and a blower.

Go around with a vehicle handing out cards/fliers saying;
"Cutting grass weekly for $??.??/Month, call 123-456-7890".

too young? never! I started when I was 12 with a 33" troy bolt, a little string trimmer, and a broom for clean up. This will be my third season and I have made enough to buy an 52" zero turn, a tractor with many attachments, and a $500 stihl backpack blower (before than, I bought a $150 lowes brand one) Start with really low prices, making almost no profit, then your name will get spread around like wild fire! In not time, you will be able to raise your prices to regular rates when you have a well known name.
