Still deciding! I want to keep 5 months expenses in the bank as a buffer. Taking the $6k out would cut 2 months off.

What do you think?

Steve, what model tractor is it? Or do you know how many HP as I can then narrow it down.

Personally I think we should all have 6 months in savings to cover our living expenses, only having 3 months is cutting it close although you are doing very, very well and you have quite a few months of yard care ahead of you, you have rented equipment at least three times, I seem to recall it was around $400.00 +/- a weekend, each time is two months payments so there is 6 months of payments right there.

I do know one thing, once you have a tractor it opens up a whole new world of opportunities and it gives you a leg up on the competition, we picked up three lawn care contracts today although that is not why the clients called us, two were drainage and one is a $4,000. tree clearing and wood chipping deal, we started talking about the lawn care and the next thing I know he gives us everything, almost 1.5 acres and he has a brand new John Deere lawn mower in the garage, he still hates mowing grass....the other two were easy sales also.

Once you have a tractor with a PTO, 3 point hitch and loader, there is next to nothing you can't do.

I just paid $2,500 for a tiller last Saturday, it is now paid for with signed contracts and with what I signed tonight it is now making money.

As for 700 hours, that isn't much for a diesel assuming it has been taken care of, do you have any pictures you could email me? Also does it have R4 (tractor tires) or Turf's, I have both for all our tractors but 95% of the time we run tractor tires.

With a loader you can provide services to landscapers, I have been approached by three in the last two weeks either getting gas or getting coffee in the mornings asking if they could sub contract soil and fill movement to me, I wish we could take on some work like this but I don't have enough equipment and we have grown as much as I want to this year.

I can tell you a 10,000# tandem trailer with brakes here is $9,700. I have three of them and just bough the third one last week for the new 2720 tractor I added. A new tractor with a loader and backhoe (John Deere 2720) with a trailer is $43,000. We put about 800 hours a year on them, when they hit 1,500 +/- I trade them for a new one and get top dollar as we keep everything in like new condition.

For example I traded a 2305 which is a little smaller than the one you are looking at, it had 1,600 hours, dealer gave me $18,500 on a trade so they hold their value well as I only paid $26,200 for this tractor new.
