I only have 2700 for equipment and trying real hard to find good stuff cheap!!! I found a cub cadet rzt 42 for 2,399 new does anyone know if this would be a good starter?
Should I try to get a last years 50" deck for same price? Do you think that a dealer would drop the price from 2,850 to 2,400?

Hey Rick-
Id rather see you go get a 36 -44- 48 or 52 inch hydro walk behind with a velke... you may spend a bit more for a new one, but you can find a deal on a used one... i just picked up a spare mower... a 48" hydro exmark with only 488 hours on it for $2000.00. Dont be fooled cause they are walk behinds. Check out the acres per hour on some of the hydro walk behinds... if youre not ready to dish out the big $$$ for a Hustler, bobcat, or Exmark ZTR, then Id look into a quality used hydro. Plus in about three weeks you can take another $1300, add it to your $700 and buy another!!
Let me know how you make out!

makbootzy 02-02-2008 10:57 AM

Well I am an amputee... I lost my left hand so I think the walk behind would be to hard to use. I have tested out the zt mowers and theem pretty easy to use. Thank you for the help. I will shop around around a little and see what I can find

Steve 02-02-2008 02:34 PM

Rick what's your view on purchasing used equipment?

I may not own a commercial mower... but I do know the fact between a commercial zero turn and a residential zero turn and that one right there you just posted is a residential mower. I have lots of experience working for my town back when i was 16. The town purchase a smiliar residentila zero turn because they were cheap and it tough it would be good enough... WRONG.... it didn't even have 200 hrs and i was using it and the steering broke on the one side.... and then the other side broke.. .. then many problems came after that because they were using it as commercial and not residential (in a cemetary and baseball fields)

I know your in a budget crunch.. but i would suggest get a commercial mower instead of a residential one..

Just a tought

makbootzy 02-02-2008 10:15 PM

Thanks for the advice. I kinda figured that the residentials would be kind of cheap. I dont have a problem buying used but so far the cheapest I founf is a grasshopper for $3,300 and was told any used commercials would be in that range unless they were worn out and about done for.

I'm curious how ya lost your hand

All Aspects Landscaping 02-03-2008 12:46 AM

hey rick... i know snapper made a ZTR a few years back that had just a joystick on the right hand side... next to the armrest... really easy to use, but had a little learning curve... i would imagine you could pick one up relatively inexpensive..

looks similar to this...

<a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/SNAPPER-ZERO-TURN-MOWER-33IN-DECK-18HP-GREAT-SHAPE_W0QQitemZ260208517800QQihZ016QQcategory

Good luck... give a look to ebay...

you can find a good used commercial dixie choper for around $2500, thay are strong mowers!

makbootzy 02-05-2008 03:41 PM

I know I am told that the rzt will not last for what I am doing but I am going to with this onehttp://www.cubcadet.com/webapp....3817_-1
I know a place near me said I could trade it in every season with $600 and get a new one or make payments on a better mower.. So I think this will work work for me. I am getting a quote sent to my VR worker today and maybe have the mower by Monday http://www.gophergraphics.com/forum/...icons/rock.gif
