Website is a mess...

Trying to spruce up my website to make it more presentable for potential and current customers. Any help would be great. You can view my website at http://cdlawncare.webs.com/ Thanks.

First, you have to get off the FREE website crap. You have to get rid of the Ads and it looks like you will have to pay to have someone do a site for you. My sites start at $149 down and $29 a month for 24 months on up.

If you want people to take you seriously, you have to put out a little money. Even if it is only for a domain and hosting.

CDLAWNCARE 04-07-2013 12:21 PM

Yes. I know its not ideal, but I know very little about this kind of stuff and can't afford to pay someone else to do it at this time. I was hoping for a start out point and upgrading to the real deal once we've had a chance to recover from the slump we have been in.

I use homestead by intuit. I know some of you are going to say its a sh!t service but it works and looks decent. I would try them or at least check them out. I think its like $5 a month and $1 for email. The site builder software they have is decent and fairly easy to use for us that arent software engineers. I would ditch that site you haver because of the ads. Doesnt look good. Do some searching around, you can find some decent sites for affordable monthly fees.

Pay for your Site

On GoDaddy.com, you can build a decent 5-page web site for about $5 a month. So sixty bucks a year. That's without a dedicated email address, but you can do a contact form right on there, and people can just type their info in, hit send, and get the email in your gmail account or whatever.

You have to build your own site, but they have so many templates that it's not that much more difficult than using Word. The learning curve is pretty short, really.

Yahoo business web site, with a dedicated email address, will run you about $12.99 a month. Their site builder tools are pretty decent too.

I build a very professional site on Intuit for my advertising company, and everytime I called for a question and they accessed my website they asked if they had designed it for me. Its very easy to use and for a personal domain, branded email address, and 5 pages it only cost me about $24 per month. That's what I did anyway, of course I'm not sure how your current finances are.

To improve your search engine ranking for specific key words you may want to change your title info.

Change this code:

PHP Code:

<title>Home CD Lawn Care</title

to something like this

PHP Code:

<title>CD Lawn Care servingYour TownTown 2Town 3829748297582976</title

List the towns you serve and the zip codes.

You could probably improve on what I am suggesting, but this would be a positive step forwards.

The Cleaning Doctor 04-08-2013 02:21 PM

Steve, some of those do it yourself web sites do not allow changes like that.

Steve 04-09-2013 11:34 AM

Oh! Well, that would be a pain and another good reason to use some other host.

Keep us posted on this what you decide to do.

LawnBoy0311 04-09-2013 12:05 PM

For webs.com I think you can. I use them, I pay like $150 a year or something like that.

CD- you can upgrade to get rid of those ad's. Thats what I had to do because those ad's really make a lousy site. Just upgrade to the next cheapest thing and the ad's will be gone. So will the .webs.com.

Webs.com is also owned by vistaprint....they put their name on EVERYTHING, but you can always pay a little extra to get rid of it.
