Voluntary retaining wall clean up.
My girlfriend and I cleaned up a local retaining wall after the city did a really sh!tty job at it.
I am going to place some ground covers in and around it once the frost is gone.
This may be my future for advertising, who knows?!
but I'm going to put a little sign saying my business name, logo, and contact info.
whaddya guys think? any suggestions for catchy taglines to get people who see the sign to give me a call?

You did a very nice job.
Can you give us a little background on it? What got you to thinking about doing this? How did you go about doing it?
Did you think of sending some pics and a little story about it to the local news paper?

A quote from you," It took us a number of hours and several loads of stuff to the dump, but we think we really made a difference."
I would like to thank x and x for helping us out (your suppliers) with plants which we will plant in the spring.
Call us at xxx-xxxx and let us know how you like it, we would hate to think that our hard work was not appreciated.
Or something like that.
As a press release newspapers, and yes TV stations may pick it up, make it part of the local news. FREE ADVERTISING with the extra kick automatic acceptance.
How do you think all these comapnies get thier free advertising on the news.

You did a very nice job. I was reading the news paper at are school library and I seen in there and it said ("Two high school students that own a lawn service re renovate shrubs at child care center") My mom said yes I should do an armed forces day special but my dad said no he did not want me and my family on TV. Even though I was on a commercial in 2008 for a tutoring center so no armed forces day special. Anyways you did a good job

Got to love a bit of guerrilla gardening.
There is something awesome about people willing to put their time, money and effort into doing something for no reward. Woo hoo!
I think you would see much greater success at using this opportunity via something in the local paper, rather than a sign. As soon as you put a sign on it, I think people's cynicism kicks in (I know mine would) about why you did it, and you loose some of the value. The "why" is really important in cutting through the noise of advertising everywhere.
If you went the press release route, I would try to make it less about you, and more about the readers. For example, maybe the press release could be about calling on community members to adopt a bit a roadside and show it the love the council big boys aren't. Pop in a photo (with you in it) of the work that you did, and it starts to get interesting. Of course, make sure you say what your business is too.
Would love to hear what you decide to do, and what the results are.
