Dump Truck?

Should I buy a dump truck?
I am really thinking about upgrading so I can carry more and unload faster. I talked to my insurance that will about double and so will the paper work (tags,reg...)
any help thinking this throw is helpful

SECTLANDSCAPING 04-18-2012 09:35 PM

Registration is killer.... Insurance shouldnt change much.

After owning a dump truck my vote is for dump trailer. Theres a few benefits that a truck doesnt have. It can carry more. It wont break down on you. Its easier to pull then carry.

willshome 04-19-2012 06:51 AM

the problem I see with a trailer is how do I carry my mowers....

Apex Lawn & Landscape 04-19-2012 12:01 PM

Don't get a dump trailer. I went from a dump trailer to a dump truck. With the truck, you can send a crew to mulch let's say, while you to mow...I couldn't do that with my trailer. I always had to get material drop it off, unhook the trailer , come back later when they were finished. Not to mention the extreme wear and tear on the transmission, my bri mar was heavy as hell alone. It sucks loading mowers into a dump trailer, Also , my dump truck has been my life saver... My mowing truck broke down and I've been pulling with her since Jan. Yes tags and registration are more but it's so worth it...and you can't really expand your business with a trailer

Willshome have you thought about a 1ton truck with a dump bed insert? or even one with a flat bed dump with sides?

The insurance would have to be cheaper then a real dump truck and youd still have the ability to unload faster.

Steve 04-19-2012 05:53 PM

I was thinking the same thing about the dump insert. In fact one of our members on here actually makes them.

Check this post out and see if it would help.

Those are sweet. ^ but why waiste your money? Yeah it can hold some mulch but what if a customer wants to level his yard out and you need 1 ton + of topsoil!? I have a 2500hd and I tried putting a bucket of topsoil in the bed one time and it about busted the springs..I'm guessing that's what $3000? Why spend that kind of money ? Ya it can dump a few yards of mulch , you might save maybe a half hr versus doing it by hand but it doesn't hold much. That's my opinion and im not knocking it, because I think they're pretty cool just limited.

Don't believe it...why didn't they show the actual material it dumped? If that was all dirt that z71 would be squatting royally!! And did you hear that truck crackin n squeakin! I know these modified beds aren't made to haul a lot but that's just my point

Thats why I say go with a trailer. My dually dump has a legal payload a little under 6000lbs. Which is pretty good but is still only 3 yards of wet compost or even less topsoil.

With a trailer you can carry 7000lbs and more depending on model. Its harder on a transmission to carry then it is to pull.
