Ok I thought I would pull all the gear out of the garage today since we had some sun. After I put everything away and was looking at the pictures I noticed I had my door plaques off and my trimmers were not installed but oh well, here you go.

how do you like the tundra?

ive seen a few for sale around here but am kinda shaky on it knowing its a toyota

not sure about import trucks..id be using it to plow and pull so it would deffinately be unleaded

plowing with diesel isnt a good idea
ive been looking at the new silverado alot
same with some sierras and f250s

Funny, as second place winner of the same contest, I was thinking about washing my truck today (50º), but instead went shooting at the range, and my previously semi-clean truck is now covered with mud. :(

Maybe I'll show her some TLC for Valentine's day? ;)


Gonna put the chrome wheels on when warmer weather gets here. I think it would be funny to get chrome wheels for my trailer too. Or even chrome trim rings. (if they still make those - I may be showing my age)

theres a few things that push me away from diesel
the main issue

is diesel engines
are significantly heavier than unleaded trucks
so as they are good for towing..they counter balance the weight..its bad for pushing cause it puts double the stress or more on the front end of the truck.

that can cause alot of major things to go wrong
my uncle is a mechanic and i plan on going to auto vocational to become one someday if lawn mowing dosnt work out..

he told me..he has crews bring downed trucks in all the time cause they run with diesel..

its the stress they undergo in the front. also..diesel can be hard to manage in the winter if you dont run the truck often..since its part water in the fuel..dosnt make a difference often but my neighbor has had his diesel parked for some time over winter and he tried running it and it wouldnt..

I would encourage you to do a little research on Diesel vs Gas, a diesel will blow a gas engine away in just about every sense of the word, I have been running them for over 30 years in everything from a generators to trucks.

Just about every commercial snow plowing company here that I see are running diesels as they have far more torque than a gas engine at low RPM, which is why they are used in transports and they simply last longer.

Ford has had some issues with their diesels, GM had issues years ago. My neighbour is the service manager for one of the Dodge dealerships here in the city, largest dealership in Atlantic Canada, we have had discissions about the RAMS several times, no issues with the truck because it's diesel.

Some of my tractors I have will sit for months in the late fall/winter without being started, I have never had an issue starting one and our temps are about as harsh as they get in the winter. I do run fuel stabilizer in my Jetta, don't have to but it's cheap insurance and costs $0.50 a tank, considering I average 1,059 km a tank it become really cheap.

For plowing you want as much weight as possible.

Well thanks for the heads up on that..
maybe its the reputation of those trucks that i heard most of, i didnt go much into depth about it.

i just heard the more weight on the front end of the engine can cause fractures in the chassis, and cause other parts like the trans and such to wear easier.

i agree completely with you when you say,
diesel has more power than gas..thats 100% true
but to me the weight issue made sense..

as i said..about the water in the mix..i said it dosnt make a difference often..i suppose i should have left that part out i was probably just trying some type of way to support my statement above..

perhaps the bad things i heard about diesels came from the ford's and gm's.
thanks for clearing things up for me and everyone i hope i didnt steer anyone the wrong way

there are winter and summer diesel fuels,the winter fuel has some alcohol in it to help with the freezing and gelling problems .Running a little conditioner,and draining the water from your fuel filters regularily will take care of most freezing issues .I worked in the arctic while I was in the military in the late 80's ,we had lots a diesel equipment and very few fuel problems ,as we ran some keroseen in the fuel making it arctic fuel ,but we couldnt shut the trucks down unless they were inside a heated building .Around here,fuel suppliers switch to winter fuel by late september ,where you live is probably later in the fall ,so its quite possible your neighbour has summer fuel in his truck .He should run a can of conditioner in the tank,plug the block heater in,put the truck in a heated garage overnight if he can ,and theres a good chance he will be good to go .I would also check the glowplugs out if he has them,more than one or two bad glowplugs in cold weather will make a diesel tough to start .
As for diesels not being good for plowing snow,as stated above,they usually make very good plow trucks partially because the weight adds traction,partially because of the tremendous torque,and finally they often have superb fuel economy .It is also true they get hard on front ends and frames,but I beleive that is because after stepping up to the diesel powerplant,people tend to cheap out on the axles and suspension .I see 3/4 ton dodge and ford diesels every day,with a 1000 lb boss V plow on the front,and a 1000 pound sander in the box .Then they fill the box with another 1000 lbs of sand ,and push a pile of wet snow .Add it all up,and its easy to figure out why a 3/4 ton diesel plow truck is getting some loving in a garage .Now,if these people would buy the one ton,with the heavy duty plow package ,with the strongest axles offered,they tend to last a hell of a lot longer .

I have that trimmer rack as well for the four trimmer option. I have three trimmers and an edger. I love the fact that you can lock them in for when you are away from the trailer and not able to see the trailer, also the lever you can turn it to hold them in place as you drive. The trimmers do not slide around as you drive also. Great product.
