I have the next model "down" from that - the FS 90 R.

28.4 cc on the 90 vs 31.4 cc on the 100

11.7 lb on the 90 vs 10.8 lb on the 100

I went with the 90 because, as the literature says, "Its solid, straight driveshaft works with a variety of cutting attachments—giving you more flexibility in trimming applications".

I've been happy with it (this will be season #3) and the ability to add different attachments saved me several hundreds of dollars my first season.

I will say this though - if buying solely for the attachment capability - go with the Kombi System or the Echo PAS unit. While the FS90R will take several attachments, you can NOT get an extension for the pole pruner which makes that attachment an expensive version of a chainsaw and a stepladder.

I use the articulating hedge trimmer attachment - a LOT. I haven't found a need for any of the others yet. (Although the edger would be nice to have)

I have heard many good things about the FS-90 and the kombi system. Have not heard much about FS-100

Not sure what you are talking about but I was able to purchase an extension for my pole pruner

I have the extension also, we use two of the Combi systems mainly for pruning and I have three of the larger FS units but not the model you reference. I have only had a small issue with any of the Stihl gear and it was fixed right away, their equipment has treated me far beyond what I expect, especially the chain saws.

Yeah. You obviously have the Kombi System.
You can NOT add an extension to the pole pruner attachment for the FS90R.

The Kombi attachments are completely different attachments - they are not interchangeable between the Kombi powerhead and the FS90R.
That's why I suggested a Kombi System if you're really interested in getting the most useful attachments.

OK I guess I should say. I have a Kombi KM 130 R with almost all the attachments. but when I am doing lawns I am switching every stop to a edger and and string trimmer. gets old already had 1 broken cupling from switching out so much (cheap fix just annoying). so I want to have the Kombi with the edger set up all day. then just grab the other trimmer when I string trim. Also when the string trimmer is set up and your doing big job that thing is soooo Heavy..

The question I have about fs 90 is it under powered?

                Hahahahahahaha!!!

Gimme a minute to find some pics...

ETA: Here, check out the crap I cut down with mine. Not even using a brush blade...
                http://www.gopherforum.com/showthrea...Trimmer&page=2

I guess if you needed to cut jungle brush on a daily basis, it may be underpowered, but for trimming "normal" stuff it's got plenty of power.

If you just want a dedicated trimmer though, maybe the 100 is a better choice though because it's lighter.
Like I said, the FS90R does NOT use the same attachments as the Kombi system.

I dont like the kombi system for everyday use. I would go nuts switching attachments constantly. If I was only using it around the house that would be different. I would start watching Craigslist for a dedicated edger.

I have the 110 and in heavy grass it is underpowered. For every day basic trimming it is perfect. It will cut overgrown weeds/ grass but it takes much longer than if I use the 250.

the only thing about a stihl trimmers is you will have to do some valve adjustments as they are not true 2cycles anymore. I know the litature tells you that they are better then they were but this is just to meet epa requirements. So make sure you get a repair manual for them.

Not sure what you are talking about because I do have the Kombi System with the 90R head and I have bought an extension for my pole pruner and it works fine

                      why yours don't fit

I don't know what you mean by "90Rhead".
A FS90 head - even if it could be attached to a Kombi - would give you a trimmer that's about 2' long! LOL!

Take a closer look at the attachments - the Kombi stuff goes INTO the coupler on the Kombi unit.
The FS90R attachments slip OVER the end of the shaft and do not have any length of "shaft" already attached to them - they are just a "head".

                        I don't have a Kombi System.

I do have an FS 90 R trimmer - it has a detachable gearbox "head".
It accepts gearbox attachments that are not the same as the Kombi attachments - they are different. (essentially the same attachment with a different shaft)

If I'm wrong, that would be great, but my dealer and the Stihl factory rep told me they are not interchangeable.

I totally agree. I have one unit that is a dedicated string trimmer. I CAN switch the head at the bottom to something else, I but don't use that function. I also have one unit that is a dedicated edger. I like it better having two separate motors because one person can be using each at the same time.

I have the FS90R Kombi system trimmer
I don't think there is such thing as that....correct me if I'm wrong though. There is a trimmer attachment for the Kombi system, but by putting the "FS 90" part and the "Kombi" part in the same name, is incorrect.....I think

I believe Justin has the KM 90R....not sure which motor I have, I believe it's the 110......everything is still in storage and calling for a snow storm tonight
