  • Youth Football field maintenance

Does anyone have any experience in maintaining a football field? * Its a youth league ages 6-12 in the Pittsburgh ,Pa area. * The grass in the middle of the field is almost bare from all the action and the rest of the grass is thin. *Want to make the grass thicker everwhere (more growth) and to grow and maintain through out the year. * I have 2 kids in the league and they asked if I would want to take care of it. *
    Was thinking :
    aeration
    seed/overseed
    Fert

Gonna post a cpl pics of it in a few days

Any help or ideas would be gr8t
    Thx

That sounds very interesting! I am looking forwards to seeing your pics! Will they do any advertising for your business in exchange for you maintaining the field?

Do they put the ads on the outfield fence? Or how does that work? Have you taken pictures of your kids team? Did you put the pics on your website to show you are involved with your community in that way?

Adds on the fence , yes , mine will either go there or a banner under the press box which they will be enlarging (3x larger )before the season starts. They will be adding me to their links section on their website. Here's some pics of the middle and sides of the grass on the field.

I can't wait to see what you are able to do with all that! I want to see your signs too!

Having some before and after pics would be fantastic to put on your website and potentially in your marketing material!

Aeration and over seeding is the way to go. Topdressing every year will probably be necessary!! The key to this is finding the right seed mixture for this area to be wear resistant, handle heavy traffic etc.
I cant see anything working fast just babying the areas

I heard a kentucky blue/ Perennial ryegrass mix has good wear tolerance
