  • trimming back shrubs

Need advice on these shrubs. I'm trimming them back today and I'm not sure how far back I can go with them. I plan on rounding them all off, each at their own size.

Did the customer say at all what they wanted or did they simply say we want the hedges trimmed back?

They're leaving it to me to trim it all by my own methodology.

Well it's still summer so you shouldn't have to worry about any frost issues. I'd consider trimming them back to a point where there still look ok but not to the point where there is no green left.

If they are trying to get these hedges back into shape after a long time of not giving them any attention, you may get better results if you did a little at a time.

You don't want the hedges looking like this.

In the bottom picture, are those ferns growing with anything or are they just really overgrown ferns?

If they are just ferns, do you suggest trimming them differently?
