  • How to sell this....

Okay, How do I sell my dethatching service? In Waverly, no one cares about their lawn enough to prevent it from dying. Then I get calls of "my lawn is dying can you come fix it?" How can I sell my dethatching service to make it sound like they need it?

Call it "Lawn Renovation". Include a thatching and a heavy overseeding.

      Okay. That's sounds catchy. BUT.

      Obviously, charge for materials.

How should I charge to do it? Cause I've never done it as a job. I normally just help the people do it.

I usually go about $6 per 1000 sq. ft. and add a minimum price "stop charge".

          Okay, Question.

How much for a stop charge.

Little info so you sorta know how I charge.
Won't take a mower off the trailer for less than $20.
Highest lawn is $30, and it's like 15,000 sq. feet.
I have an "employee" that gets paid $8.00/hr.

so from that what sounds good?

Also, where can I find Thermal Blue Grass Seed?

If your minimum is $20 then make that your stop charge. Use good seed appropriate for your temperate zone.

You really have to run your own numbers though. My prices may not support a business in other areas.

Okay. (I'm 17 and dont get the whole charging thing for extra services) I get how to charge to mow though. But anyways,

              How's this sound:

              $20.00 to show up.
              $X.XX for materials.
              $6.00 per 1,000 square feet.

Assuming I bought $40 for seed. (for the stuff I like to use.)
              and for 10,000 square feet.

              $120.00.

Most people won't go for that. But it's worth a shot. Most places are small and won't be much past $80. so that might work for smaller properties.

My price includes the materials but I made a mistake, $6/1k is my overseeding price alone, not including thatching or aeration. I imagine I'd charge around $10/1k for the dual service.

Feel out your customers. Will they pay $120 for the service?

Not sure. I guess it'll be a hit and miss. Some people care, most people dont care one bit about their lawns. Most people think if it's green and grows it's fine. Then when it dies, that's when I get calls.

Funny thing is, I'm taking the real businesses out of business with mowing and such. But they don't take pride in it. They are just mow and blow.
