    Public relations

    Hey Steve,

    Great to hear from you. Great job on this forum BTW. I think what I get from the parade is that we put our name and "logo" (very important) in front of around 80%-90% of the residents of the city I live in. I feel like we are "brand"ing our image into the brains of potential customers and creating a public relationship. I originally came up with the idea by being the guy standing on the side of the road watching the parade and seeing how many other business used it as the same tool. A new check cashing place in town was in the parade and were throwing out little plastic cups with their logo and phone number on them. I thought it was a great idea. We did our first year without any "gifts" (we just tossed out candy) and had a good experience. We had almost everyone in this city looking directly at us in our truck and thery were smiling and waiving. (A positive first experience for anyone who didn't already know us). We have an ad in our local phone book (just covers our city) that has our logo in it exactly as it is on our trucks. That is using what the big guys figured out a long time ago works, brand recognition.
    I live about 30 min outside of Nashville. Most of the competition seems to concentrate on Nashville. I try to go after the work that is here where I live. That practice helps to lower my expenses by reducing my fuel bill greatly since I live within six or seven miles of everyone in my town. It has been my experience that marketing a smaller town as apposed to working in suberbs and big cities provides a much higher profit margin and reduces the amount of competition. I have been doing this stuff for almost twenty years and I think I love it more each year.

      Toro ZTR

      How do you like the Toro ZTR? It looks really nice and it has a bagger. Does it fit thru most of the back yard gates where you mow?

      Here is that pic I posted during the fall;

          Nice setup.
          Nice truck. That's some low miles! My 2001 Silverado just turned over 50,000 this past season.

          I'd love to have a trailer that size, but I don't think I could go bigger than 12' - my driveway just isn't big enough. (current trailer is 5x8)

              Frank,

              That is a great picture.

              I love the fall clean up sign on your truck bed. Do you change that out seasonally with other signs?

              Have you had any feedback from customers about it?

                Hi Steve,

                Yes I flip it over and it says snowplowing on the other side. I have another one for the summer that says Organic Lawn Care and the other side says Mowing.

                  That is fantastic! Since you have been using them, have you found they made an impact in getting calls?

                    I only had one call I know of. Guy saw me at the postoffice called for snowplowing but never hired me.

                      I would think it would be great for neighbors too, when they look out their window and see you working, they can easily see your number and call you.
