  • Gutter cleaning robot

Can you imagine if you had one of these gutter cleaning robots? If the device worked fairly well, you could clean gutters quickly, cheaply and safely!

That is awesome. I have the IRobot 'Roomba' and I love it. Good products.

The Roomba really works well? I am always concerned these devices are going to be under powered.

well it is no super vacuum, however, it digs right in and does a good job. Does wonders on my hardwood. We run it about every 2nd day, having only to really do a real vacuum once a month.

              I could see that working!

Tell me this, would such a robot help a lco perform this service better and cheaper?

              What's your take?

Or would this be a situation where marketing the opposite would be better?

I just watched the video on this thing...

                http://www.irobot.com/video/looj/loojintro.html

While it looks cool going down the gutter, it makes a few points come to mind...

                - Would it get stuck if there were too much of a compacted clog in the gutter?

                - If you look behind the robot during the video, you can see there is still some stuff left behind...

                - It looks like it does a decent job, otherwise, so could you upsell a customer on gutter cleaning, turn this thing on and do something else while it's running? (how fast does it move, is there a lock for the power on the remote handle that lets the thing stay runnning, etc)

                Just my .02 worth...

What I am thinking is that if it worked at least ok, it could cut down on the up and down ladder time and limit the potential accidents one might have.

Now say you had such a robot, you could market it and say you are the only lawn care business in the area to use it. Maybe you could get media attention on that.

Would this speed up the time it takes to clean up gutters? It might!

Could this give you a competitive advantage?

Well I am not too sure about the competitive advantage. It may work well (as does my Roomba) however, I am sure it is not for repetitive/commercial use. What if it ran up on a compacted pile and hopped out 2 story's to a concrete drive???

Perhaps if they made a commercial model...might be worth checking out a bit more seriously then.

                    But I love the concept.

I think that thing would work great (IF) it was only leaves and the gutters were clean every year. (But) for the people who only clean every 10 years. I think you might have some problems, because the fins that doing the cleaning are rubber and they are just flapping.

I have clean gutters that took some muscle to get that mess out of there.

but I think it would be worth the money, The guy who said it left some leaves behind, just send it threw twice.
