Is anyone using twitter to promote their company at all?

I am playing with it but it seems like a goofy way to promote a business unless there is something going on 24/7 that you can 'twit' about. LOL

What's your take on it?

I don't see the point of using Twitter for my business, 80% are my clients are seniors and don't know what a computer is

Good point.

LOL I can picture it now. Here is a customer that sent in a picture of themselves trying to find you on Twitter.

I've heard good things about using Twitter in the business world but for me, it's pointless lol

Steve, It may just depend on what you are trying to promote.

But I just started twitter two days ago and i have got 4 total orders.
It may be just because its new and may die out after a while.
So Far So Good!!!

If you do twitter as a marketing tool, I would suggest keeping it business and not to let people know your every move. Just information about your business.

Does not hurt to get noticed!!

Ultimately do you then just release updates about your products or news about how they are being used? Is that ideal for a business?

Now I do not know how many people actualy read my twit.

Steve, When I twit, do you see it when i do it?

For me it would be useless. Even though the majority of my clients are seniors (95%). I would hate to continuously twit them with blogs. Now it might be something I would consider in the future ... next year perhaps. I am holding the line on getting new clients until spring season when I hire an extra person.

I'd love to know how others find it working in the long run.

One day we should have a competition with how many stupid tweets you can do in one day :D

I just started using twitter and I had 2 calls just yesterday from towns that I have not done work in yet. Coincidence? I don't just send tweets about my company, I also retweet what I think is for my local audience like the local school scores that they tweet or realestate advice or home selling advice etc. Lots of links back to me jut gains more exposure.

Question though?
If you tweet on twitter does that make you a twit? :D

Hi Pat,

Do you track where new callers initially heard of you from? That could help you find out which of your marketing is working and which isn't.

How do you go about adding potential customers on your twitter?

Pat, That is great!

Look me up and I will be your follower. Have you started a Facebook yet?

That is my best marketing, besides my card holders. LOL

I use Christian Chirp (http://www.christianchirp.com/home) which is the Christian alternative to twitter.

Here is my profile there: http://www.christianchirp.com/profile/Smallenginemechanic

If you sign up on Christian Chirp, you can use a program where you can tweet and chirp at the same time, getting twice the coverage!

The first thing I did was a search for my town and started following those tweets. Yes I do track where the calls come from. I don't do much in the way of print (still on a tight budget) but what ever I have done has gotten my rankings up there. Lots of nights up till 2 or 3 am working on the web site.

That is fascinating! I didn't even think of that. Were there a bunch of them or were there only a few?

What's your twitter site so I can add you?

There wasn't a lot but then I searched on realators and home improvement and got lots of them. I then started searching towns around me. I am even following the chamber of commerce and convention and visitors bureau.

I could be wrong, but it might be tough to find people that live around you that aren't businesses.

Maybe you would have better luck with that on facebook or myspace.

But but looking for other businesses in your area is a great idea. Why not include any business that services homeowners? Plumbers, electricians, lawn care businesses etc. I bet there are a lot of them.

Have you also thought about joining the chamber of commerce?

The article starts with.

Ok, so maybe you have a Twitter account set up and have started checking out the site, or maybe youíre still among the ranks of small business owners who havenít found that compelling reason to get off the sidelines and start trying to use the site. Recently, Twitter launched a new feature that allows users to create lists of people on Twitter Ö making the site infinitely more useful for users who need some help navigating the flood of information that comes from the site.

It seems interesting and plausable but, I feel it would be extreemly time consumming. I am currently spending as much, if not more time researching and marketing, as I am "On the Job". I feel, there are more productive ways to market.

From what I can make out, there are some on there that have a huge amount of people on their follower list, but it seems to me that those people are the 'internet marketing gurus' who have thousands of other 'internet marketing gurus' following them.

I don't know if they are helping each other in anyway really.

It's quite fascinating though.

Any time you can get a link to your site it is a good thing. In your posts, not all of them, you need to link to your site. Twitter is crawled at an amazing rate by Google and others because it is updated so often. Tweet Tweet Tweet.

Steve

Do you think it is possible that having the links from twitter to your site may actually help your business more because it will improve your natural search engine listings than what you are actually writing in twitter? Is that possible?

Steve, I have no idea, but let me tell you, its good for lots of exposure. I have been tweeting for 2-3 days I think and I have drastically increased the traffic to my forum. I have almost double the page visits so far this month when compared to last month and I contribute most of that to visitors that are solely from twitter.

I hope to get a few things listed on my website itself in the near future so I can start tweeting that as well and hopefully increasing my online sales. I am excited about what this could do for my online sales and possibly for my forum.

I like the way you are tweeting articles on this forum. That is kind of the same thing that I have been doing. I tweet and sometimes have 20-30 visitors INSTANTLY from that tweet. Granted, within minutes some or most of them are gone again but while they are there some of them look around at other articles as well. I see a lot more random traffic because of it as well. I think this will increase as I continue to increase content there. For example, I have several Power Equipment "FAQ" articles and continue to add more. I also have numerous Power Equipment Recalls articles and just general press releases there. This content continues to grow and I think will help bring more random traffic after the tweets.

Just my thoughts....

How much of this do you feel is about finding the right people on twitter to follow in order to get them to follow you as well?

I would figure one using twitter would need to find their target audience or will their target audience find them?

How should a lawn care business owner go about finding people to broadcast too or is that even important?
