He was a fantastic guitarist and a genius inventor. There'll never be another like him.

RIP. :(

WOW!

Les Paul, the guitarist and inventor who changed the course of music with the electric guitar and multitrack recording and had a string of hits, many with wife Mary Ford, died on Thursday.

It's amazing how important those two inventions have changed the world of music!

And everyone has seen the Les Paul style guitar, whether you knew it or you didn't. Here is what it looks like.

Mark, how did Les Paul effect you?

I remember when I was young that my grandma had this console stereo that sounded so rich. You could feel the sound and not just with your ears. It had a vibe and a smell (it had tubes that would get hot) that can't be explained, only experienced.

On Sunday she'd only play gospel tunes but on other days her and grandpa would play Les Paul and Mary Ford records. Les could seriously jam. :)

When I hit the teens I got into rock and thrash metal and picked up guitar myself but I could still really appreciate Les Paul's skills and always remembered hearing them on grandma's console.

Here he is back in the old days: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iGXP_UBog4
and here he is just a few years ago at age 91: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXjC_9btq8Y
