Has anybody thought about adding janitorial services to their company? *Office cleaning, carpet cleaning, floor waxing, etc.

I know one local lco here (the largest in the area) that does office cleaning and she actually makes more money doing the office cleaning than lawn maintenance. *She (the owner) is an amazing hard worker.

Just her schedule alone, not her crews is:
Lawn Maintenance 10am to 6pm
Office Cleaning 7pm-3am.

She even works weekends.

But getting back to the main topic, how well do you think a company could do?

I think it could work. If I were to do it, I would consider partnering up with someone who would be interested in such work. Then you could offer expanded services.

Maybe even go back to an idea you had in the past about subcontracting work out. Find another company you could sub it too and then try to sell this service.

What's your view on this? How do you think it would be easiest to implement?

I think that perhaps it might be best to sell commerical stores with large floors to clean first. After that, expand more into the total cleaning side of the business

Would you want to do this yourself or sub contract it out?

I don't know. *Who knows, if this took off, I could see myself working late nights 10pm to like 5am doing floors, and not have to worry about the weather conditions outside. *It would be stable year round work

That is a very good point. It is important to explore and experiment with concepts. Did you see the other post on the LCO who got into making bbq sauce? Pretty wild!

To get something like this started though you could initiall sub it out and see if it would take off then you would have more options to consider.

The only thing that I am worried about is that I have been working pretty good with the local lco on a great relationship with referring customers, and the office cleaning is a major thing that really nobody else around here does. So if I do it, I feel that I might offend her.

I feel if you want to explore you should do it. What if you wanted to offer tree service too? Why not sub that out as well?

How do you feel she would be offended by you doing this? It is outside her business scope.

Actually it isn't outside her business scope, it's exactly what she does.

Ohhhhhhh. I didn't understand that.

Well maybe she could sub some of the jobs to you to do?

that is something to think about

Yea it might not hurt to bounce the concept off her. You never know until you try.

Maybe you ask her and find out she is ready to get out of the business totally and you can pick it up.

You just never know.

Janitorial Business or Cleaning Service business is a pretty good thing to do. You are busy during the whole year, not just during the season. I think that commercial cleaning business is easier to start and to manage than lawn care business and you don't need that much equipment from the beginning. You can try to get some small accounts for the beginning like beauty salons or small offices and see if you like it. If that's something you want to continue to do you can look for bigger accounts then. Good luck.
