wierd question regarding tattoos

Hi all. I am starting a lawn care business, & I have an interesting hurdle to "overcome". I am professional with my appearance, well liked in my small community, family man, all that jazz, and I also love tattoos.

I've never worried at all about offending people. They're not ugly back alley tattoos. They're expensive beautiful pieces, and I love 'em & generally people like to come up to me to tell me they like 'em too (even a lot of older folks). And in general, they have allowed me to have many great conversations with people I never would have before.

The reason for all my yammerin' is I was wonderin' how good of an idea it would be to incorporate the fact I have tattoos into my business name, ie: Tattooed Lawn Service (I'll try to come up with something more clever lol) or some such and come up with a creative tag line with it.

I was just thinking about the fact that there WILL be instances where people will see me after they've called for an estimate & think "uh oh, he has tattoos", and cost me jobs, so it could kinda help cut down on THAT a little. Plus, it could be catchy & different enough to stand out more than your average "(Last Name's) Lawn Care".

I'm not naive enough to think my tattoos won't offend or turn off anyone. I know it is a hurdle I will have to either hit head on & use it as some kind of advantage or give in & hide them (which would be hard to do) or give up. I don't intend to give up, & hiding them will be an option I will seriously consider if I absolutely have to.

I've learned a great deal from browsing the forums for the last few weeks, proving you never stop learning. I thought I knew quite a bit, but you guys have really opened my mind to a lot of cool ideas & tricks. So already your opinions are very valuable to me.

Well consdering I spent mny years in the Military, it was hammered in that tatoos look unproffesional. But I do have 4 of them, each are meaningful to me and all I drew myself, but they are all easily covered with a t shirt. I do believe that these days tatoos are a bit more acceptable in most cases. May be a problem with some of the higher end clients, but your idea is good. And if you own your own business that is one of the perks, name it what you want and do what you want.

That is a REALLY cool idea! You know it would be amazing if you could get a tattoo artist to create your logo. Something that looks like a tattoo. Then the next thing I might do is include a picture of yourself in your marketing material, maybe have an about us section. In that section you could tell the potential customer how you have a love for tattoos and you could show off some of your favorite images.

I think that would be a great way to break the ice and get them used to all this before they even meet you.

I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Do you have any pics of your tattoos you could show us? Also what got you interested in them?

Maybe you could use a motto like "Lawn Grew? Call Tattoo!"

Personally if I was a customer & I saw a guy in a suit offering lawn service, I'd think about it...

If the guy had tattoos & looked rugged & bumish, I'd probably hire him! This is lawn service, not doctor work! Tattoos give a labor service LOOK baby!


I talk to my customers covered in grass & clothes with holes = I look like I do the service I'm offering!!!!

If I'm wearing I suit, I'd be worried that my customers would think I'm some scamming punk.

If I was a doctor, tattoos would look horrrrible!!!

Lawn Grew? Call Tattoo! I love it! Well, except for the Fantasy Island reference (wasn't that the little guys name that said "the plane, the plane!) Anyway, I think incorporating the tats lets people know you're unapologetic about them and I think in most cases, it would be to your advantage. Sure, there are some old ladies with their prejuduces (my ex mother in law), but there are so many nice people out there with tattoos I think the bad guy image of the 50's is gone. After all, I think I heard a higher percentage of girls have tats than guys, and most of hollywood (Justin Timberlake, David Beckham, Ben Afleck, Brad Pitt, Kobe Bryant, Nicholos Cage, Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Bruce Willis, Kiefer Sutherland, etc) have them too. It would be harder to find a celebrity without a tattoo. So don't hide it, be proud, and use it to separate yourself from the rest. I think its an awesome idea! "You say your lawn is on the brink? Call the man with lots of ink!"

I have a tattoo on my arm that I had done when i was younger its colored. nobody knows i have it. The people i work at dont know. I always wear long sleeved t shirts. even in public with my family. My hair is short i have no peircings. when i go to my customers house and mow there lawn i dont show it and i never will. to me you show up with tattoo's all over and just looked like you woke up from a hangover you really think i would hire you? Honestly?
If you came to my door wearing a suit to mow my lawn id probably laugh. Im old school and have a tattoo. i do judge by looks and appearances. As so do alot. To some it doesnt matter as long as they dont have to worry about it.
thast just my 2 cents does it mean anything...i dont know.
