Ok, so in the start of my business things were picking up slowly, hardly any customers for lawn service, just gutter cleaning.

I was called to give an estimate for a customer, she had the smallest lawn I have ever seen. I thought to myself, "Should I forget this customer, or take the job?" I figured I mind as well, it won't hurt me.

This customer, the one who's paying for my toilet paper, has loved my service & got me 2 new customers who are paying close to $500.00.

One of my $500.00 customers has now taken a look at my referral program & said, "I want to get a $100.00 gift card! I'll get you 5 customers guaranteed!"

She already got me 1 customer on the same day.

...........

So basically, if your starting out make sure you take the crummy lawns & either their neighbors will see you, or the customer will let their friends know!

I also had a nice & busy day yesterday, I went to my girlfriends at 5pm & slept until 7:30am... It was amazing!

You really are doing well! Congratulations!

Do you have any advice on gaining referrals? Do you ask customers if they can send you more customers or what is your advice on how best to go about this?

Well my advice would be - be generous if you believe it will pay off.

One of my customers didn't know about my referral program - So I stayed true after she got me a customer & I told her she has won a free movie pass, if she gets more customers for me, she could win more. She was surprised & loves the idea!

Another customer of mine didn't get me a new customer, but her neighbor had hired me.

I went up to her & said I will give her a movie ticket out of my generosity, & all she has to do is get me one more to win a $25.00 gift card from Futureshop, or 2 customers to win a free gutter cleaning... etc'

She wants her gutters cleaned so is now getting me phone calls!

Here is a picture of my program;

7:30 am? 7:30 comes around twice a day?

You're referral program interests me. You give a $100.00 gift card for 5 referrals? Am I interpriting that right? What kind of gift card do you give?

I took on a one time mowing job at the start of my business for a man going on vacation. It was a small lawn and only took me about 30 minutes total on the job. While there I trimmed some overhanging branches. I got a yearly contract out of it. I now advertize one time mowing for vacationers. Got 6 so far and 2 more contracts.

Don't pass anything up.

My referral program is pretty neat.

1 customer: Movie pass
Usually new homeowners or young people will be interested, & single moms etc.

New homeowners are NEW and I wont expect them to bring me tons of customers. I thought a movie pass would be a smart move.

2 customers: Futureshop gift card... blah

3 customers: Free gutter cleaning, no sweat off my back! I only use my blower for 5 minutes, the rest is all time which I can't lose money unless I'm on a tight schedule. A lot of homeowners would love this, they could save hundreds, or even less $35.00 for my service.

4 customers: The big one, everyone wants this, everyone goes to home depot... It's something to aim for, no one really likes a future shop card or maybe doesn't care about gutter cleaning, so they will aim higher & get the home depot card. Awesome.

The last one, it's a $100.00 gift card for our main mall in the west island. The card works on every shop inside the mall, it basically is everything I offer, in one spot, with more money to spend. And it's as simple as getting me 5 customers, doesn't sound challenging when your the customer.

I've seen this somewhere else. I'm not sure where but I recall someone doing the same thing.

Looks like a good idea to me. I may implement that too, but change free gutter service to something else.
