Hi Anthony,

Welcome to our forum! What got you interested in starting your own lawn care business?

I have grossed $25k just wondering if this is good or bad or avg. for the first 9 months. I've avg about 20 clients.

The gross probably isn't as important as the net income. Because you could potentially make a $25k gross income and spend $30k getting there.

Have you calculated your net income from the $25k gross? Have you figured out what your biggest expenditures were?

Well it all really depends...what type of services did you offer? What is your productivity and charge out rates? Have you been creating profit and loss statements? You make me nervous that you are asking at the end of the season if you did good or not. You should be following month to month that way you can change things if numbers don't add up.

I had a background In Cemetery maint. but just had a prob working for other people.

I don;'t really know my P/L but the bus is self sustaining, VERY little debt.

You sound like an entrepreneur for sure.

It is a good idea to know your numbers and see exactly what your P&L was that way you can tweak your business.

How did you attract your clients this past year?

Business cards in local businesses is good. esp. pizza shops/ restraunts.
also, yard signs seem to do great, but I loose most of the signs.

flyers seem to do really bad , like 900 to 2 return, but they are cheap.

Have you calculated the % of profit from your gross? That might help give others something to shoot for. Like a 10% profit, 20% profit etc?

Also feeling like you underbid some, are you planning on doing anything different next year to change it?

How long does it take you to cut the $25 lawn and then the $45 lawn? Also what kinda mower do you use and do you like it!!

It takes about 30 min to mow the 25. It takes about 45 min. to mow the 40. I use a 22 inch Toro Personal Pace. I would like to get a 36 inch. comm or a comm 22 Toro mower but I feel like I shouldn't because we bought two of the new mowers instead of sticking with what we had. We had a consumer Cub Cadet push mower and a Ryobi weedeater and we got a homelite blower. We got lucky on the trailer my brother in law gave it to me.
