What off the wall marketing idea have you done, that actually worked? Maybe not necessarily crazy idea, but something that nobody else might think of.

Ok here is an off the wall idea. I haven't done but it might attract attention.

What if you created a mascot for your company and called him something like green man, enviro-man or lawn man. Where you wore some sort of costume with a mask and cape and you cut lawns or applied chemicals that way.

LOL I bet that would get some attention.

Then you could go to the local schools and put on seminars about lawns and the environment.

that is a great idea. I would have never thought about that

Can you imagine kids in the area saying to their parents "please mom can we have green-man work on our lawn too?"

Then that could be part of your employee dress attire as well. Next thing you know, you have franchises all around the country based on this.

Kind of like the way the blue man group works as well.

Ok how about this. You create this mascot and its a dummy you leave in the mower seat on your trailer and you drive from job to job! HAHAHHA Wouldn't that attract attention!

Or maybe you mowed with a big green wig on! http://www.partybox.co.uk/data/images/Pop%20Wig,%20Budget%20-%20Green.jpg

LOL someone already did this.

What about putting a big giant weed in the middle of a lawn for advertising, and by it have a sign say something like "Are weeds taking over your lawn, then call......"

04-01-2006, 03:20 AM
Yea that's good! Maybe a big dandelion! Would you want it to be a colorplast sign? Or make it out of something else where it is 3-d? Then maybe it has a light inside to light up at night http://www.gophergraphics.com/forum/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Or how about something crazy like this snow man. A snow man in spring or summer is kinda funny and you could probably get them cheap! Then put a sign in front of it like this one.

04-01-2006, 03:26 AM
Or how about using one of these 'sky dancers' on your trailer. You could turn it on when you are mowing and then turn it off while driving.

04-01-2006, 03:26 AM
that would be a great idea

I am really surprised seeing that snowman, the amount of people that do not have lighted signs during the day for advertising. Sure, most LCO's shops are at their house, but I just really surprised.

Here is another idea. Could you contact the local high schools. Maybe they have a marketing class or a grafic design class or just an art class. Tell them you are looking to have some type of crazy promotion designed to help promote your company. The one you like the most will win $100?
Then you could promote this to the newspapers that the students are working on the contest. Maybe you could open to all people under the age of 18? So you get even crazier and wild ideas http://www.gophergraphics.com/forum/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I have thought about that before. I should say getting kids to do some type of business stuff or something. Like stuffing envelopes with my marketing material to learn quality control procedures in business classes

How about this. Go to your local sub shop or pizzeria. Come up with a sub sandwich or pizza that you like and have it specialized for you. Then name it after your business. For instance "The Tiedeman Sub/Pie."

Ask the facility if they will offer a discount for the sub along with any other discounts they may want to promote. In return for you handing out door hangers.

Then promote this on one side of a door hanger. "Thanks for making us so popular! We are now the only Lawn care company in the area with a sandwich named after us!"
Include coupons for the different things the store wanted to promote.
On the other side of the door hanger, promote your lawn services.

Put some flyers at the store to promote the new Pie/Sandwich along with the services you offer.

How's that for an off the wall idea?

that is something different that I would never think of

I thought about a "Trade in your mower" program. It would go some thing like this...

Trade us your lawn mower and we'll give your credit(s) towards free yearly lawn mowing services. Home owners who trade a working lawn mower and sign a yearly lawn mowing contract will receive credit based on the kind and shape of mower being traded. Lawn mower can be any kind, must be working and used by the home owner on the property where service will take place. Offer valid for new residential customers only. Not valid on previous purchases, existing services or in conjunction with other offers, including prepayment discount. Call now the set up an appointment for a quote on your trade in and a free estimate .

That way, I would get new customers who sigh up for yearly contracts and they give me there lawn mower. I might be able to resell it or donate to Goodwill or something like that.

Thanks for jumping in Kent, great idea!

How would you go about promoting that? Flyers? Door hangers? Something else?

What about accepting even mowers that didn't work for one free cut with a contract?

I would acept non-working mowers, Any thing to get a new customer to sigh up for a yealy contract. I would limit the "Free Cutting" to a max of say 5 and only one free mowing per mounth.

As far as promoting it, Right now I am building a all new web site and have a web page made to promote it. I also plan to make Flyers.

Here is the web page Trade In (http://www.hls-nl.com/new/tradein.htm)
I'm building the web site myself and the New site is up but I'm not promoting it yet. So some of the links my not work.

Hi iakentdoz,

That's great.

We really should make a flyer for this or a door hanger.
