I thought this was a fascinating article. It discusses how important it is, as a franchisor to work well with a franchisee. It shows how problem franchisees can take up to 80% of your time.

Have you ever found this to be the case with employees? Or even customers? Do a few problems tend to take up a majority of your time?

While a star performer generally needs little maintenance, a franchisee whose values and attitudes don’t match those of the operator quickly can create problems.

Those franchisees also tend to be the most vocal and can end up banding together with other disgruntled franchisees to create major headaches for the franchise corporation, Wirtz said.

“Operators spend 80 percent of their time dealing with the problems,” Wirtz said. “What they want to do is eliminate the ones who are going to cause problems.”
