A new trend in the sports business

Do you think this is a new trend that will continue? Will other pro sports teams rename themselves?

MetroStars sold to Red Bull (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/soccer/mls/metros/2006-03-08-metrostars-redbull_x.htm) - Anschutz Entertainment Group has sold the MetroStars, one of five Major League Soccer teams it owned, to Red Bull Co. Ltd., the Austrian company which produces the popular caffeinated drink. The team has been re-branded Red Bull New York, with a new logo and uniform.

I think that more and more sports teams, high school and pro will start to have paid sponsers on their uniforms. I personally think that they should do it now.

[Steve]

Can you imagine the money the sports team could raise? Especially HS teams? I bet they could really use it too!

[tiedeman]

I think that HS teams have to do this within the next couple of years, especially public schools. Right now in our state horrible cuts are going on in high schools. There are schools that enroll over 3,000 kids that are cutting sports programs all together because they can't afford it.

There is a school system just north of me, where the sports booster has to raise approx $150,000 every season (three seasons during a school year) just for the kids can play sports.

Well I do hope this option helps out. Which makes you wonder if you could do something in your area since you used to be in HS sports to raise money for them.

I wonder what we could come up with if we brain stormed that would include a lawn application business and hs sports.

What if you offered a year's worth of lawn applications for a raffle?
Then maybe you could get another company to offer another service?
Then you could potentially get the HS team in on it and help promote it somehow?
