How to cut grass

Hi, I just have a few questions. I just had my first lawn mowing job today and the customers seemed happy. I have pretty much only mowed my parents lawn before and it's really small and I can go in straight lines as there is nothing in the yard. My question is what should I do if I cannot go in a straight line. like if a big tree or bush is in the way? should I go around it in a circle once or twice and just run straight lines to it? can some one explain to me how to go about doing this. thanks!

Go around it one mower width then intersect with the circle to make it look like you mowed right over it. Lift the deck or cut off the blades if required. Your pattern needs to look orderly and done with attention to detail.

Thanks Eric, I'll try this next time I go (Saturday) and I'll maybe take some pictures so you guys can tell me how I am doing.
