You might find this NPR interview with UPS interesting.

UPS uses specialized software to save gasoline by reducing left turns from their routes. *

In addition to gas savings, reducing left turns saves time and helps reduce the risk of accidents.

During the broadcast it is interesting to hear a UPS driver honking at a car while he's sitting in a left turn lane.

It is difficult to make left turns into traffic with a lawn mower trailer full of equipment. *So, this tip will save you time, gas, and aggravation.

That is fascinating!

I wonder what kind of percentage drop they saw in accidents and fuel usage after instituting that policy!

great post I never thought of that, but it makes perfect sense. most of my turns are right and the left are very aggravating.
