Roy Scott, a winner of the Savannah Chamber's Small Business Awards offers words of wisdom to those starting out.
What's your view of this?
'Follow your dreams, but have a business plan' (http://www.savannahnow.com/node/302238) - Leroy "Roy" Scott's L&P Enterprises is a lawn care business specializing in maintenance and sod installation, employing those who might not otherwise be able to find a job.
After serving their sentences and remaining drug-free, individuals who are housed in or released from Savannah transitional centers are hired by L&P, which helps them make the transition from incarceration to the work force.
L&P currently employs 25 full-time and four part-time workers.
The toughest part of being a small- business owner, Scott says, is finding and keeping good people who truly want a second chance in life.
The best part?
"You are your own boss," he said.
Scott's advice to small business owners just starting out?
"Organize a good business plan."
