View Full Version : Photos and bios needed from forum members
05-04-2008, 03:16 PM
I am in the process of putting together the GopherHaul Lawn Care Business Show Episode Guide for episodes 15 - 25.
What I want to do is include photos from as many of the forum members as possible. The photos will appear in color on the front and back cover of the book and then within the book I am going to have a section showing each photo and a short bio you send to me. Plug what ever you want to plug in the bio.
I also plan to make sure you are quoted in the book as well.
Then I am going to get the book up for sale on amazon.com
I think this is going to be so fantastic for all of us taking part. When was the last time your picture was on a book! Also if I get a quote in the book from you, you will then be able to make mention on your business website that you were quoted in the book and show a link to the book on amazon. It will really add an incredible amount of credibility to your resume.
This is really going to Kick ###!
Ideally I would like photos that really encapsulate who you are. Like for instance, with Chuck, he might want to send in pictures of him singing on stage and in his bio talk about how he started a band and a business. Then maybe have a more calmer photo for your bio section.
I want this to be inspiring to all those reading this to show that we all have many different interests and show off what we have done.
The front and back cover will be a collage of all our pictures.
This project isn't completed yet so I may need to change things but this is the plan.
Send me as large of photos as you can email me here. (firstname.lastname@example.org)
You can also email me your bio like a paragraph or less or post it here.
I so look forwards to your responses.

Will do Steve, I'll put that together for you later tonight....
Funny that you use me as the example, http://www.gophergraphics.com/forum/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif "like Chuck, he's both a freak & a down to earth sensible business man"
05-04-2008, 04:42 PM
Chuck I think you are a great example of a guy who is doing what he wants to do. There are so many people out there that only dream of fronting a band or dream of running their own business. You are a doer. You are a member of a small percentage of people who DO. That is why you are inspiring!

D a m n .....
I never really though about it that way. I'm flattered that you think so. Thank you.
05-05-2008, 07:18 AM
I do think so. You are welcome. It's very difficult to see yourself at times when you are in the mix. It's very hard to reflect and see how you are living the dream. Most of us just never have a moment to stop and reflect on it. But from an outsiders perspective, I see it.
This book is going to be a celebration of that.
Thank you for the bio.
I am going to post it on here to give an idea of what you created so others on the forum can join in. Remember if you want to promote your business or your website, you are absolutely welcomed too and if you want to change your bio, just let me know or repost it. This is going to be by far the coolest thing that has come out of the forum yet.
I also wanted to thank chuck for submitting all those pictures from his band and his business.
From Chuck Quote[/b] ]Chuck is a 30 yr old Floridian transplant (moved from Long Island N.Y. about 19 years ago).
By day he is an business owner running a lawn care / landscaping company in Charlotte County Florida. He is married & a father of two young children one girl, one boy. On top of that he has yet to let go of music which has been his passion since childhood. He is the lead guitarist & vocalist for an all original rock band called Jack Somebody. "Running a family, then a business, then a band (in that order of importance) gets tiresome at times but I love all three. The business is getting better all the time, which makes family life nicer and I have more time to enjoy my wife and kids now, The band has gained more notoriety playing shows from Tampa down through Ft. Myers & the release of our 2nd cd seems to have some fan anticipation at least regionally so all is good!"
05-05-2008, 12:11 PM
I want to thank Chuck for the pictures too. He really sent some good ones.
They are going to make for great pictures in the cover collage. One day we will all look back at these pictures and we will get a kick out of it.

It's going to be at least a month before I finish with all the text. I wanted to get the bio section and photo submission up and running now to give everyone plenty of time to get involved.

That is a great photo. If you have any other high res photos, please email them to me here (email@example.com).
If you can post your bio here, that would be great. It's going to be published so everyone will see it in the book. Also it will give others an idea of how everyone is putting together their bio. This will be very inspiring! Maybe you could include something about Hurricane Katrina so others know what you went through? Just a thought. I am looking forwards to it.

05-12-2008, 05:10 PM

I don't know if this is good enough but here is my bio
Just in Time Yard Services is operated and owned by Justin Pitre, a savvy 22 year old business man learning the tricks of the trade in the lawn care industry. This business all started all back when I started to mow some lawns for a lawn care business/property management and they asked me if I wanted to mow the lawn that was on the property next door since the property to sale and there I was cutting grass for that property. Past experience was mostly grass cutting as I experienced that job for many years until I decided I had enough of minimum wage and start my own business. I thought at 20 years old, having a business would be tough to handle but I think I handled it pretty good since I had all that background experience. *After receiving a 3000$ grant from the Canadian government, I told myself, if I can do this, I can run any business. My dad always told me, “You can do anything you want, as long you put your mind to it”. Just in Time Yard Services is located in French River, ON, approximately 3.5 hrs north of Toronto, ON, Canada. I hope I’ve inspired some other teenagers to start there business, and this concludes my Just in Time Yard Services biography

So will we have to order this book or is this our present for making GopherHaul attend 1 million views http://www.gophergraphics.com/forum/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
05-17-2008, 07:48 PM
hold on I'll fix it
05-18-2008, 11:15 AM
I am going to try and keep the book cheap. With the website that is going to print it and bind it, they have a rolling scale of how much minimum you can charge based on many factors including the # of pages, binding and color settings etc, but I do hope I can keep it that cheap.

In the mist of hurricane Katina Quick & Clean lawn care was founded by owners, Blaine and Shelley Dennison. Armed with only a hand-me -down mower and a broom, we started advetising on local yahoo groups, like craiglist, and Lakeveiw rebuild
By the sunmmer of 06 we had over 20 customers across The New Orleans metro area. over the summer we upgaded our equipment to a john deere EZ Trac ZTR Echo brand *trimmer and hand held blower.
Today Quick & Clean lawn care is now an LLC and is progressivly growing and upgrading. Now equiped with 2 john deeres, echo weed trimmers and back packblowers we continue to service the still storm ravaged New Orleans area with quality work.
Anyone needing our services in Orleans or Jefferson Parsh, can fill free to call Blaine or Shelley @ (504) 469-7121
Or email Quickcleanlawn@bellsouth.net

Gotta Mow Lawn Maintenance. *A short history and some background on the owner.
Ben Belhorn founded Gotta Mow Lawn Maintenance in the summer of 2008, with a belief that he had the energy, drive, determination and skills to get a small lawn care company off the ground…. Or perhaps on the ground would be a better term. *Ben had been looking for a second job to supplement his income from his full time job and had been running into some difficulties. *You see Ben works third shift for the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and whatever job he takes would have to go away in the winter. *During the winter months ODOT employees frequently work 16 hour shifts plowing snow and spreading salt on the highways. *But during the summer months the Outpost that Ben works at goes to 4, 10 hour shifts. *So what could he do that would allow him the freedom to stop working every winter, work shorter hours part of the week during the summer, and work some weekends?
Ben decided to look to his background to see if there is anything there:
Over 8 years working in every possible position in the grocery business from bagger to manager
* * * * * * * * * Wal-Mart is always hiring, No thanks
3 years as a Sheriffs deputy
* * * * * * * * * He could become a part time freelance police officer. *That’s called a vigilante. Bad idea.
5 years owning a One hour photolab and digital imaging center
* * * * * * * * * He stopped doing that because he was not making any money. *Now do it for minimum wage?
Think think thin…. Wait he got it!! A job that allows him to work at his own schedule goes away in the winter and is inexpensive to start. Lawn Care!
So Gotta Mow is started with what he had a brand new Craftsman 22” mower and a Craftsman trimmer. *Along with some stuff out of his garage all loaded into the back of his 99 Chevy Tahoe.
Advertising on Craigslist with good, professional looking ads, put together a website, and made some business cards. *Then his cell phone started ringing and emails started coming. *
Less than a month into this little venture and he had already developed 3 weekly customers who signed contracts for the year. *He had been called for estimates for several properties that were too large for him to handle, and was being forced to look into expanding his equipment. *
He realized… He could expand his client list much faster than he could procure equipment. *This is going to be fun and challenging.
For more on the Saga visit www.GottaMowOhio.com or just call Ben on his cell phone and ask how he’s doing 614-271-0188
