Did you know Poinsettias are named after the Mexican ambassador who brought the flower to the U.S.?

What a fascinating story!

Poinsettias need care (http://www.suntimes.com/lifestyles/athome/689601,HOS-News-bot09.article) - n the mid-1920s, a few cuttings from a plant native to Mexico provided the start of an enduring holiday tradition. Joel Roberts Poinsett, the first American ambassador to Mexico, grew the cuttings after returning to his South Carolina greenhouse.

First known only by the botanic name, Euphorbia pulcherrina, it later was given the common name poinsettia to honor Poinsett for introducing the plant into the United States. Today, one man's love of plants is a $220-million-plus business, with nurseries in all 50 states growing these colorful holiday houseplants.
