I was thinking that I haven't done enough to thank everyone this year for all the help you have given on the forum.

Thank you so much and I am starting a member of the month.

I thought just to get things started, I would make one of our newest member our first member of the month and then we can go from there.

I hope this is a good thing and everyone finds it positive.

Please give me your feedback and thank you Tim for all of your posts, letters and flyers you have shared with all of us on the forum.

Mighty nice of you. * I am working to build this business this year. *I don't want to have to pick up a part time job again next winter. *So it's all me from here on out! *I am trying to keep close tabs on everything & like you said I probably should slow down... *But it's tough whe you jump in with both feet and need that income to feed your family to say ok let's just take it slow. *I figure that's why they call it putting in your dues. *It's somehow exciting & no fun all at the same time.

Hurray!!!!

Hahaha! Thanks guys, I'm speechless! It's nice to be appreciated on gopher!

It's also very refreshing!

I spent $120.00+ give or take on a game called, "Wii Fit + balance board" & this game hates me...

It doesn't say I'm fat, underweight... Though it thinks I'm clearly retarded.

"Try to keep your balance as you do such & such"

Balance is something cats have... The Wii Balance board has become a giant coaster for my beer & any meals I wish to have in bed!

THANKS WII FIT!!!!!!!!!

Things to note!

It's damn cold outside! Spiders are finally gone after being here for 2 months, grass is getting sparse & easy to cut... I find it easy to catch up in this sort of weather, so I'm happy!

Finished another garden in ONE DAY for the first time from the same guy who hired me 4 times previously for garden work.

Just in the summer I've made $575.00 off this awesome customer. It makes me wonder if my work is actually that good?

I'm excited for next spring, I think I will have a very good start up. I have new plans & expectations.

Hear me out... What is stopping me from advertising to all my neighbors & giving them REALLY nice prices, then adding $5.00 every year until I'm satisfied.

Is it a bad idea to try to start customers off cheap as dirt & then slowly build up? I don't even have to use the truck!

Think of it this way, it is low balling, but it's also my street. It might sound evil, but I'm ready to take over my small area.

If they are my neighbors, it gives them a reason to trust me.

If I raise my prices & they decide not to hire me for a season, what are they gonna do? NOTHING, they wont go look for another company who charges double or triple... They will have to suffer & mow their lawn themselves **** LEAVING THE PLAYING FIELD OPEN for me to create another bid for them if I am in need of extra money...

Sound like an awesome plan?

In Short:

1. Low ball on my street only
2. Get many near by customers
3. Barely use my truck
4. Start at a low $65.00/month for ALL but corner houses.
5. Raise the price by $5.00 every season until I reach a profitable secure point.

$65.00 /month for the houses on my street is fair game. I might even consider going down to $50.00

I already have 3 houses on my street alone, & I'm getting lots of customers who live side by side to other customers, it's all coming together like whipper & snipping... :) Next season I'm dropping a few clients unless they want to pay an extra $10.00-$20.00 / month.

MORE GOOD NEWS:

A customer of mine had just moved into a house, where I work on his yard. He is now selling his house because he only bought it & fixed it up for his son, but his son is leaving Canada instead... He told me what house he just bought & will be living in next season. It's a mansion with tons & tons of grass, for me to cut he says! I'm hired again baby! BRING ME SOME MONEY!!!

I'm excited, terrified, & really want the winter to leave as it comes!

One rider mower is all I need, & everything will be a ...... Breeze................. HA!

ALRIGHT, that was the biggest post I've done in awhile! I'm letting this business get to my head, but I love it. Must be the turd I just had, very relieving!

Thank all of you, & I wish you the best for the rest of the season. Can't wait to see the posts start up strong next year!

- Scott!

Well the first thing that stands out in my head is the part where you say you would want to offer your services for cheap and then raise your prices by $5 every season until you reach a profitable secure point.

How many seasons do you figure you would have to do this for before you reached a profitable secure point?

CHEESE2009

Well my friend! I have 3 houses on the street who all estimate close to $60-$75.00

I figure it will take one season for most, two for others.

About $70.00 is what I'm looking for, so I'm not so far off.

Every house will be estimated like this season to see what price to put them at, but I'll only choose a price range between $60-$75.00 a month on which they will pay.

Even if it's over $75.00 worth, I will keep it maxed at $75.00.

Houses that are less than $60.00 worth will be priced lower, if they are on my street, perfect, no harm done! I will up the price the next season.

It's a strategy I would like to try.

The chances of me gaining clients his seemingly high. There are a lot of elderly do-it-yourself types, but if I can swing by & give them a reasonable price, they might change their mind.

I also see neighbors having a heck of a time mowing they're yards, so I'd like to take the hassle away from them.

It's very funny when I go out to mow my lawn, 5 other home owners will watch me for 2 seconds, then get they're mowers out & start mowing. It's as if they follow my cutting schedule.

It's something you'd have to see, it's hilarious! I'm also finished in no time at all, while all of them are out for the entire afternoon/evening.

People like us, our lawn maintenance skill grows faster & faster, we make it look easy. I hope this interests my neighbors!

Well my friend! I have 3 houses on the street who all estimate close to $60-$75.00

Have you figured out how quickly you can do these properties when they are close by? Also is do you find you make more or less profit on them when they are close by vs others that are farther away but you charge more to do them?

I have 3 on my street, didn't time it but I'm guessing it's under an hour to mow trim & blow the debris.

It's pretty efficient.

I mow all each house making my way down the street, then I just put the mower in the garage, grab the trimmer, trim all of them, put the trimmer in the garage... then blow them all yadayadayada!

I found it to be very relaxing as they were all so close by. I actually double cut one lawn to give it a checkered look LOL. I was bored, last lawn of the day I usually spend the most time messing around & trying new tricks.

Most of the homes are the same size, basic lawns. Hardly any obstacles (pools, furniture, annoying crap) ... So it's just line after line, it's easy.

If I get more next year, I'll be very comfortable!

Another update... My cousins mom who owns a lawn service apparently hates me, so she doesn't ever wanna see me... I don't give a damn though.

But my cousins boyfriend who owns a lawn service wants to sell me some stuff... He's gonna give me a price on an enclosed trailer, I can't wait to see it! He might throw in a backpack blower (husqvarna) meh.. Those ones I find are heavier then the other brands.

I'll let you all know what happens. In the mean time I'm just NOT focusing on lawn service as much, kinda taking a mental brake.

Playing Nintendo Wii... Hanging out with my Uncle/Aunt - LMAO shemale... or whatever the heck he wants to be called.

He/She can really take my mind off every day stresses with a good chuckle... If you saw him/her, you'd have a heart attack! Wigs... why...

Wigs... why...

You may be Gopher of the month Breeze but stop spamming my gopher of the month thread :p If you want to talk, make your own ;) Thank you come again :p

Anybody that helped out on the forum, could be a newbie, doesn't really mean they posted alot on the forum, but they've helped out.

Also, if that member was Gopher of the Month before, we won't accept, we give a chance to everybody to become Gopher of the Month.

I am going to nominate swstout. I really enjoy reading his posts and feel like I can learn something from each one. He has a very good working knowledge of yard care and is constantly keeping his eyes open for additional options. He is a true "outside the box" thinker. He has tirelessly helped me with my endless questions about organic lawn care and I greatly appreciate that.

And if he were to accept nomination, heck I would even nominate him for President!!! Steve Stout for PREZ 2012!!!!

FloridaBoy

Swstout was already Gopher of the Month

How about we nominate a newbie, they may not be on here often or new to the forum, but hey, they all have something to say :)

A newbie sounds good. I would suggest, however, for it to be someone that contributes to the forum with valuable info or with thot stirring questions.

With that said, I would then nominate DDavoni (http://www.gopherforum.com/member.php?u=41321) for his thread "A $25 Shovel vs a $25 lawn cut" (http://www.gopherforum.com/showthread.php?t=10779). He is both new, and has brought mind stirring conversation to us.

I'd like to nominate Andy (picframer) I think he's spent as much time here as he has in the seats of all his toys this year...I think we need to install an hour meter on the site just for him. I have sure enjoyed all the pics of the many jobs he's been working on. It takes a lot of devotion to the site to work long hours and then spend the time to post all those pics too!
