Accounting 101

Hi all,

Many of you have been asking questions about how to do this what should I do about this and that in book keeping.

I am a firm beleiver in good accounting records.

For 2007 my taxs were completed on 02 Jan 08. year end closing all complete. This took about 20 min if that.

To help the ones of you that are new to business and you want a NO COST accounting software here is a link to Intuit's website (QUICKBOOKS) where you can down load a FREE accounting program to help you along your way to becoming better business managers. The more effective you are at keeping books the less time spent doing it, more time for family and other business issues, like make more money!

If you don't keep good books then the tedious task of sorting through all the mess will do 2 things for you, 1) COST YOU MONEY!
2) STRESS YOU OUT and COST YOU MORE MONEY!

This is a great program for those of you just strating and don't fully understand accounting software. This basic programm will help you learn the basics and as your business grows your accounting system will need to grow with it, you can always upgrade this software easily to the Quick Books PRO as needed.

I have sent email to Gopher Software Support to see if there are batch files or conversions needed for this so it can work with Gopher software. I don't see why it wouldn't it is Quickbooks Software and it will import excel files so there should'nt be issues with this.

It is free sofware so download it! set it up! and give it a try!

This is no sales pitch just helpful info to help you and your business.

That is good info. In Topeka KS you can attend Quickbooks class for $20 to learn basics and this is through small business development center...I am sure other towns offer programs as well.

What limitations do they put on their free version?

As far as basic to low advanced accounting and book keeping there are no limitations I kind find. maybe fixed assets I couldnt find that listed anywhere.

If Gopher could intergrate this into it software OMG it would be the greatest thing since sliced bread and melted butter.

There are fees if you want to use their payroll and credit card services but you can use your own for free.

They have all kinds of free gidgets and gadgets for small business's. Just starting. Business plans, how to's and there is a website report card that I thought was very good, it does a report on your website and then tells you what to do it fix things that might not be just right on it. VERY NICE! My site scored very well and were it was lack it told me what to do to fix it so I would recommend this to all.



All Accountant reports are there, easy point and click data input, thousands of customers and vendors list and multi bank accounts and more! If you had to pay for something like this it would cost you 100-200 bucks and this is FREE the best price for a small business starting up. I have used Quick Books PRO and Peachtree Complete III I liked these but I wish this was available when I stared 20+ years ago.


So I don't see any limitations at this point .

Is this all online software or is this local on your computer? Can you save all your data local too?

Software apears to be on your computer locally but I think it is online but I do know there is a local data base tracker so you can have access to all, it also ask you to back up data every 7 days.

Website Grader is a free seo tool that measures the marketing effectiveness of a website. It provides a score that incorporates things like website traffic, SEO, social popularity and other technical factors. It also provides some basic advice on how the website can be improved from a marketing perspective.

Good find Tim. I was about to go buy quickbooks 2008 while its on sale at staples. Still was going to cost $180.

I was going to use simple start, but I wanted to be able to use gophersoftware for scheduling and invoicing so I snagged Quickbooks Pro 2008 so they can sync together.

but simple start is great if you don't need the scheduling software.

As I am new to the sight if anyone needs help with accounting or tax questions please dont hesitate to ask. I am a tax accountant during the off season. I've never really got involved with snow plowing during the winter so i needed to find another job. I have over 12 yrs of experience and if I dont know the answer right away, someone in the office will.

Are you familiar at all with Canadian tax law?
