I looking for a new truck right now.

Most of the work I do is mowing and landscape renovations.
I made it thru last year with just a S-10. I'm looking to upgrade this year.

I don't know if I should get a 1/2 ton like a F-150 or 1500 or a 3/4 ton like a F-250 or 2500.

It would be nice to have the 3/4 ton to haul materials but I also want a new all around truck that would be used for mowing to. A 3/4 would use alot of gas for just mowing. I still have my S-10 that runs good and I could just use that for mowing. Or just get a 1/2 ton that is going to have a small V-8 and go with that to use for all purposes. The S-10 has alot of miles on it. So I don't know how much longer it will last even though it runs great.

Any suggestions or past experiences on this?

Thanks

You know Rob, you bring up a good point. I do wonder how much you will save on gas if you use an s-10 vs a larger sized pickup. I wonder if the gas would just be too big of a difference.

Well I want to trucks. One for mowing which would be a smaller S-10 type truck.
Then one for when I do landscaping work. Probably 3/4 ton with a 350 or 351 not a huge motor. I like ford trucks though. so probably 351.

My dad told me just to go with a 3/4 ton to.

Do you guys bag your grass and take it away?? We bag all of our lawns, and we will dump approximately 20 yards of grass away each week per truck... the ranger would never hold that and pull a 16' landscape trailer.

Go with a 3/4 ton. One day you will be kicking yourself if you go with the 1/2 ton. I have one of each and the 3/4 ton is a lifesaver sometimes. I needed to haul some gravel, so I was able to put 3,500 pounds in my trailer and 2,500 pounds in my truck bed. The F250 pulled it without missing a beat. Mine has the 460, so I'm sure that helps too.

1996 F-250
This is going to save me when it comes to hauling materials and debris. But the gas ouch!
I'll still use the S-10 for mowing.

Rob,

Very nice! What are you going to do with it to turn it into a marketing billboard for your business?

That is a nice truck and it's in great shape for a 96. Looks like you did your homework and made a great decision. Congrats on a great purchase!!! I think I would have to use that thing for mowing as well though. It would look pretty sweet pulling a trailer around and
people would think you really mean business. What kind of gas mileage are you getting with that s-10 pulling a trailer???

Thanks guys. I have a hard time letting go of my money and that took all of it.
It has 134,000 miles on it and a 460 in it. So the gas isn't that great. But it has alot of power.
I'm not sure what kind of gas mileage I get with my S-10. But it has 234,000 miles on it. So its getting old but it still runs strong.

I'm not sure yet. I can't wait to get something on there though. I'm going to have to wait for another month though because the money I have left is for gas and the bills.

Any ideas for what to put on it?

Ok here is a crazy idea. How about covering the truck in artificial turf! Then leave space on the doors to stick magnetic signs and maybe on the back to have a magnetic sign. Also maybe your phone number on your rear window.

LOL! Thats a little to crazy for me Steve. I saw the pictures of that truck or whatever it was that you posted before. I think its funny but I wouldn't do that to my truck.

If it wasn't so expensive a wrap with a grass theme would be nice tho.

Maybe just keep it simple then at the moment. Get magnetic door signs.
