View Full Version : Element to include in your myspace marketing

Here is the response from Tara on a question I asked her about what kinds of elements a lawn care business owner should include in a myspace page.

Quote[/b] ]I just have to send one more thanks out to TeamGopher for all of the support and ideas. I just love my banner that someone from your team*not sure who to give credit too* made for me.

You asked me in another post what elements I thought should a LCO include on a myspace...

Some of the things I have added which I think are very important:

Contact info *make sure it is listed several times*

Pictures of us/employees if you have them *we don't except for my 19 year old son*

Any helpful industry links - For example Angieslist.com has been a very powerful marketing resource that has helped us gain several customers this year. I have their link posted. If a person joins Angies List or is already a member they can read several great reviews written about our company from current happy customers.

Before and after pictures and pictures of properties you maintain or jobs that you have done.

I also put the following in blogs:

Fall Specials *you will recognise the flier =)*

Additional Service Offers

Our Premium Lawn and Ornamental Service

Our Standard Lawn Service

About Us

All of these except for the fall flier I already have posted on our website www.theothersidelawncompany.com so all I had to do is copy and paste =)

Now the idea I have is this...

While my personal myspace only has people I know personally or dailydrool.com friends and a handful of other basset owners I have met online....I want my lawn and landscape company to have many friends. The more the better!

I figure that I get so many basset friend request with my personal myspace without even trying *so many that I have turned down some because I do not want that many on my personal myspace* that if I put a little effort into it I can do the same when it comes to folks that are in the green industry, or into gardening, landscaping, etc. etc.

I want to join some networking groups and put an add in the free classified area that myspace provides.

Anyways I am going to spend the winter months filling it up with friends. I want all kinds of comments about how nice our lawns look, what a good job we do, what good people we are etc. etc.

Then right about when we gear up to start the next season...*probably in January* I am going to start putting out a monthly lawn and landscaping tip bulletin. Then around March when we really start gearing up for the season I am going to do a search for folks in a 25 mile radius of us *I have already done one and there are over 3000* and I am going to go down the list and request an add from those myspaces that look like they may be potential customers.

I figure I get an average of 3 bogus friendship request a day...come see my pictures that myspace won't let me post and you can be a millionair or get a free ipod etc etc...so why can't I market my lawn and landscape myspace in the same fashion.

If I get just one customer from it then I have paid for the time I put into it...so what do I have to loose...right =)

Again I really do appreciate having TeamGopher as a resource. You guys have been so helpful to me over the years. I could never thank you enough!

Tara

I do thank you for all the great information! I am sure everyone else appreciates it too!

Do you have any suggestions on how you will build up your friends list for your lawn care business?

tjgray

The first thing I have done to get friends is send out a bulletin to all 120 of my friends on my personal myspace letting them know that I created a myspace for our lawn company...

I have had our company myspace up all of 2 days and I have 15 friends already...all personal friends of mine http://www.gophergraphics.com/forum/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Well except for Serrano Landscaping who inspired me to create my myspace so much by looking at theirs...

The next thing I have done is to add some groups. So far I have added:

Entrepreneurs and Business Owners Group

Gardening enthusiasts

And Cooperative Ventures

But ya'll their are litterly thousands of groups you can join...

After that it is a matter of networking. Posting to threads, talking to folks, being helpful and offering advise.

I am a real people person. If you leave me standing for too long in the supermarket line I am starting up a conversation with the person behind me http://www.gophergraphics.com/forum/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Relationships come easy for me. In person or online...

I actually get so many friend request from my personal myspace that I turn down because I don't want that many friends on my personal myspace. All because I have such a sweet squishy basset houndie...

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c88/tjgray/Ashley%20and%20Cohens%20Going%20Away%20Party/HamiBeingAdorable.jpg

I figure our lawn company myspace may not be as cute but I can use the same techniques for getting friends...

Now thats got me thinking...I do bring my hound to work with me when I go out on route. I have a real cute blog about him going to work Hami Bones Hound on de Job (http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=16685230&blogID=323180954) maybe I should put it on our company myspace and see if it gets me some friends request http://www.gophergraphics.com/forum/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Now here is a question for you http://www.gophergraphics.com/forum/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

How long did it take to get the 273 friends on TeamGophers myspace??? What are some of the ways that ya'll built up your friendship list???

Steve
11-05-2007, 06:36 AM
You know, after reading all that, I was thinking how great it would be if you had a business name that included your pet interests! Can you imagine Bassett Lawn Care and then have a logo with your dog's image in the center! Then you could do so much with the cross marketing! It would be amazing!

Quote[/b] ]How long did it take to get the 273 friends on TeamGophers myspace??? What are some of the ways that ya'll built up your friendship list???

The site has been up since May. Most of the friends have come from friends I know on here but some have come from searching out other business owners. I probably could be doing a lot more to reach out to people though.

Steve

Here is an idea.

If you did something like this, then you couldn't you possibly pay for all your bassett expenses with pre-taxed money? Couldn't it be a business expense for a company mascot?

Just a thought!

ha I was just about to ask this question...so yay it's already here...

My only concern is spending time making my page look good and now there's a nice spam button when you request a friend. If I get spammed too much I could be deleted right??? Like if the people hit the button enough.

And before I was saying how I didn't want to post my pic as I didn't want a bunch of guys contacting me just because they find me attractive or whatever but since I won't be alone at jobs, maybe I could use my pic anyway??

What do u all think, good idea or bad??

Angelik99
11-05-2007, 01:13 PM
or maybe just add my pic into a message?? So I control who sees me?

Angelik99
11-05-2007, 01:15 PM
I'm just looking for a way to add "friends"/customers and so far my tactics have only gotten me one...so any other ideas are welcome!!

One of our friends on here who was talking about this in the past was saying he tried to not add more than 40 friends a day in order to stay under the radar. Plus he was using some kind of auto friend adding software to add friends. So maybe that will give you some kind of range to shoot for.

I think you should use everything you can to help market yourself. I mean look at me I make videos LOL

Yea I would totally use your image in your marketing. If you want to play around with some ideas, why not take some pictures of yourself doing 'green' or 'lawn' activities and then we can try and play around with it to come up with a cool logo for Sarah's Lawn Care.

Why not take advantage of your looks! Maybe that will even help you attract a large friend list! I think you marketing you, will help your business stand out from others.

Let me know your thoughts.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, initially I was a bit weary because of the amount of creepy people I attract on my personal page, but it might work, so far I haven't been working alone anyway. So I'll try it. I've got a couple photos of me in my own yard I'm putting up, but I'll get better ones this week and maybe you guys can do something with them!! That would be awesome!!

Awwwee I love that graphic!! Except for I spelled basset wrong *I gotta stop posting at 2am.

Sarah *is that your name =)* I am glad you brought up the subject of spamming. I too have thought about what would happen if I got a whole lot of people reporting me for spam would myspace shut down my page. I definately don't want that to happen.

I mean how many times can you be reported as spam before they shut you down. Thats a question I don't know the answer to but maybe I will send a message over to Tom and see what he says??

Like I said I do get about 3 bogus friend invites a day. You click on their myspace and it is all about come see my nude pics or win a free IPOD. I always report this as spam but I don't know if my reporting it actually makes the myspace go away???

What I thought I would do is be careful about who I am sending friend request to...I thought I would do a search of folks within 25 miles of us and narrow the fields down to folks who are 25 or older and on myspace for networking *no folks who are looking for a relationships or dating*

I figure folks who are above the age of 25 and on myspace for networking would be less likely to report me as spam...especially if I don't start making friend request until next March when everyone has their lawncare on their minds.

I also understand why you may not want to use your picture for fear of a bunch of guys coming on to you...you are a very pretty girl BUT from one pretty girl to another I say in marketing one must use what they have. That means your personality, knowledge, and by darn if your lucky enough to have them your looks.

It is you that has to be professional enough to be able to keep your business relationships that way.

A kind of example, my customer the other day said something like you little cutie you. Now I know these customers are nudist and they have invited me and my husband to a couple of their parties...

When this has happened we just smile and laugh it off...they know that me and my husband have been happily married for 20 years and that while we don't judge them for how they chose to live their lives we are not gonna go there http://www.gophergraphics.com/forum/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Really what you have to learn is how to be a professional even if you are beautiful...and yes I would definately use a picture of yourself but I would make it one of you working http://www.gophergraphics.com/forum/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

ok then 2 ppl say I should I will, LOL! Well two respected people..use my pic, keep it professional, got it! =)

It would be great if someone could make me a logo that I could add to any pictures I wanted!

I don't have a name other than Sarah's Lawn Care as of yet and for a while til funds increase...so it's simple. =)

So far I've been hitting people 50+ hopeing they still think spam is in a can. =) Plus it's harder for them to get out in their yards at their age. aka the older they get. I'm hitting seniors first and personal friends.

I was trying to go for the women first, then I'll be going after the old old old guys, I don't mind them! lol!! After all they can't drag me in the house! ;)

Anyway that's my stratigy...can't spell it...and believe it or not I've got an AS degree...LOL!

My personal page looks awesome.

I see a lot of potential in your myspace! *I really like what you have written in your about me section.

The only advice I would give is to take out your divorced status *and your ethnicity*your customers don't really need to know that*

And while we are on the topic of myspace...I have a special request http://www.gophergraphics.com/forum/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Could someone please make me a graphic from this...maybe a litle less long...

http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c88/tjgray/Lawn%20Pictures/long-mower.gif

That says: Thanks for the add!! Or maybe Thanks for the Support!!

It would be nice to have something cute to say hello to all my new friends http://www.gophergraphics.com/forum/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Oh blahhhh I looked it up and it looks like you don't have the option of leaving off your Marital Status....

Sooo forget that one but still I would take the ethnicity off http://www.gophergraphics.com/forum/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

And I know what you mean about new myspaces...mines a whole 3 days old http://www.gophergraphics.com/forum/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I like this concept a lot.

The other photos you have on your site are a little blurry of you and they would be difficult to turn into a logo. Maybe you could get a few more that aren't blurry?

But this postcard is a great idea! Have you handed this out yet? I like this direction.

Here you go. Let me know how it works out.

Maybe send a message to my myspace site with the image so I can see how it looks!

I posted it as a comment on your myspace but deleted it because it is a little long...*it throws your table all off*

I tried resizing it myself but I can't seem to get it right...

If you could make it a little shorter it would be perfect http://www.gophergraphics.com/forum/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
