Hey gang,

*We'll with a little help from few friends (2 of which, Justin & Richard iI've made on this site) *and only a couple dozen hours wanting to throw my computer out the window...

*The new page is up, based off gopher web template #16 after a bunch of assorted modifictions here is where I am at.

http://www.charlottecountylawns.com/index.html

I need to add as section yet for my landscaping pics, I want to rewrite the home page (kinda redundant with the about us page) *& I need to find out how to submit it to the search engines as unless you click the link or type it in the browser it won't show up. *Not even if you search the exact name as the domain....? *I'm new to this but I'm sure there is a reason.

Anyhow please let me know what you think.

P.S. I read a similar "look at my page please" post a few weeks ago, went to the site & liked the vacation services section & copied it to a word document... *I wanted to ask that member if I could use their wording & now can't remember who's site it was! *
*
I stole that part & I hope that's alright, if not I'll change it. *I wrote the rest of the text myself.

It feels good to have it up & running. I'm just trying to refine it before I really push it to the public. I'm having the vinyl letters done up this week to add it to my truck & trailer.

I am looking forwards to seeing some pics!

Did Richard or Justin help you with search engine optimization for the site as well?

If so, what did they suggest doing?

I really like that.

I'd like to congratulate Chuck for being able to upload his site on his own with my help

I haven't showed him how to do some search optimization yet because I am not an expert in that field yet

If you still need help with SEO I'd be willing to help. No need to submit your site to search engines, they will pick up your site on your own.. so dont listen to any of the advertisements you get in the mail.

A good way to start off would probably be adding a link in your signature, I am not sure if these forums are SEO friendly but if they are, then google is probably crawling them all the time and will pick up the link and crawl your site.

Thanks for the advise Matt. *Yeah I reacently learned that links really help & have been meaning to do so here.

Any advise is always welcome, I'd like to pick your brain sometime & talk a bit. *

btw..... *I don't like Emo either....

Yep typo.... I fixed it ....

Thanks man! Glad ya like it.

We've gotten this far & all, we're just getting ready to release our 2nd album. But We've got 3 performances left & I'm quiting so the bands coming apart. Haven't got the time for it anymore..... Can't beleive I'm even saying that. For 19 years I've never gone more than about 3 weeks not in an active band. Now I'm the guy pullin' the plug on a good working project. Never thought I'd be that guy but hey, times & priorities change right?

Feel free to pick my brain any time haha

Oh WOW! Did you record the album? Will you still be releasing it?

musician/lawnman
05-04-2008, 07:57 AM
Yeah, More than likely it will just be a digital release. (available for downloads but no physical cd's produced)

We still want to get it out there but I don't want to order 1000 cds & end up with a box of several hundred in my closet because the bands not playing shows to actively promote it.

Yes a 12 track full lenth has been recorded & 7 tracks are mixed & mastered , we have a few more to got with that but I can put up the ones we have done.

...look at the source code on your robot.txt file. *Needs work.

http://www.charlottecountylawns.com/robot.txt

On your home page you should add the following in the meta tag or head area.

meta name="robots" content="index, follow">
meta name="revisit-after" content="15 days">

This will direct bots and crawlers to index your site and follow all links. *Additionally the bot will revisit the site every 30 days in the event content is changed and to keep it fresh.
Add a left pointing arrow before the meta command. I'm having a hard time getting this chat software to display the entire code.

I'd also suggest getting a free tracker from these folks to view who is visiting your site and how they are finding it.

That url comes up blank?
I don't have anything on my page or in my files named robot.txt?

I appreciate the advise but what are you talking about here?

StealthDumpTrucks

it just looks blank. Go to the page, click the browser menu "View", click on "Source" and you should get a notepad open up with the source code.

find out more here:

In your case, you don't want to exclude any files or pages.

An even better resource:

stealthdumptrucks, have you ever used google analytics? If yes how would you compare it to extreme tracking? I have never used extreme tracking so I was just wondering if maybe it's better or not?

Chuck,

I loaded up your robot.txt page and then used my browser to View - Page Source.

This is what it has.

I use extremetracking.com because it's simple and easy to add. I haven't gone deep enough into the google offering to know if it's better. I don't think I need it for my site anyway.

Steve

I am checking that site out.

I wonder how it compares to report tools some may have access through their servers?

StealthDumpTrucks
05-08-2008, 11:10 PM
It's easier to use than logging into the server. *One or two clicks and you're into what you want to see. *From there go anywhere without touching the keyboard.

I have to mention though that logging into the server will show you the files requested. That's how I discovered the search engines were looking for my robot.txt and robots.txt files. I'm also getting pinged for favicon.ico which I've yet to develop.

Steve

The icon image is another little add-on that I think many websites miss as well. I don't know what it really offers the reader except for seeing a small icon in their browser. But it is good to point out how to make it.
