View Full Version : How to install Gopher on another computer

Let's say you just purchased a new computer and want to install Gopher on it along with your database. How do you do this?

Step 1. Download Gopher from our website and install it on your new system.

Step 2. Copy your Gopher database from your old system.

Step 3. Follow these steps if you are going to use the Gopher backup feature.

Step 3a. Click on FILE at the top left of the screen in Gopher.

Step 3b. Click on Backup Database.

Step 3c. Choose where you are sending the database to. Are you sending it to your floppy drive (a:)? Or a zip disk? or a memory stick? Don't send it to a cdrom with this procedure because Gopher does not write to cds. Follow step 4. below for information on this.

Step 3d. On your new computer, after you have installed Gopher, go to the top left and click on File. Then choose Restore Database.

Step 3e. Choose where you are restoring your data from. In this example we are restoring it from the a: drive which is our floppy.

You should now see all of your data in Gopher and this process is complete.




Continue on if you are transfering the data by CD instead

Step 4. To copy your data by CD, use your cd burning software and copy the Gopher database.

To find where your database is, click on Options in Gopher at the bottom left of Gopher.

Then click on the Database tab at top.

This will show you where your database is located in your computer. Use your cd burning software and burn the Gopher2003.gdb file to a cd. Then on your new computer, paste this file from your cd into the same location.
