Welcome to our forum!

Give us some back ground as to what has been happening so far. What have you been expecting to happen and why do you feel the reality of the situation differs from what you wanted to happen?

well i'm located in Nashville,Tn. The last few years my advertisement hasn't been very effective, though I haven't done what I really want to. I have done flyers, business cards, all my trailers are marked up. This year I got a few radio spot, and Home Mag ad. I recently broke my computer with my Gopher program on it, so I lost the info for the ten customers I had. This is going to be the first year that I've had the program, it was a problem for me to keep up with schedule at first. Now I'm eager to see how the program will help me.

Are you tracking where your new callers have initially found you from?

Also you mentioned that you haven't done what you really wanted to do. What would you really want to do?

Let us know some info for the company and we'll help as much as we can.

What advertising worked the best?
What was the worst?

Do you have a website? Do you use google adwords or any online marketing?

Have you already started advertising this year?

Maybe try to limit paying for ad's until you turn a decent profit and want to grow more. Start small with craigslist, door hangers, flyers, google adwords (be target specific on your ad), thumbtack.com, etc. Look for good deals on marketing. Radio ad's, tv ad's, homeadvisor.com, those are all costly. Even EDDM from the post office is costly.

I certainly hate to see people get discouraged, its a hard business that takes a lot of work.

My best advertisement has been my trailers. I have a custom cleaning system trailer that has signs, and my lawn trailer, but my sign blew off and messed up. Now I have an enclosed trailer. I have been running an ad In "the home mag" for the last three months, I did some radio spots for a month. I have flyers and business cards. When I get money, I'm going to do direct mail with the post office.

Have you tried posting flyers in grocery stores and asking friends and family to help you spread the word? I think you should focus on free advertising methods instead of spending money with the post office and magazines. I haven't started my lawn service quite yet, but I'm getting close. We plan on using CraigsList, door hangers, knocking on doors when people are home and explaining our service to them and giving them a business card, putting flyers in grocery stores, and getting a few bandit signs, you can't use alot of them where I live, but you are allowed to use a few, we are also going to be using freeclassifieds.com which is similar to CraigsList, but alot of people use it. See what your competition is doing and maybe you can modify what they are doing to work for you also, its at least worth a shot. Just don't give up.

Do you track where your customers heard of you from when they call? Do you keep a record of this to review at the end of the week/month/year?
