Fertilizing and seeding questions

I live in southeast Tennessee about 45 minutes from North Carolina and Georgia. I am new to the business and have some seeding and fertilizer questions. How do I determine the correct NPK to fertilize a lawn with. Should I buy a soil testing kit and determine from there? I am understanding it better the more I read, but know ya'll will give the best advice.
Lastly, what type of grass should I seed with? Fescue, Bermuda? Or should this be on a "per customer" basis. You guys are awesome! Thanks!

If you want to do things right, you should start with a soil test first, otherwise how do you know what you need to add?

Why not get one and start experimenting with it.

Can you buy them at most hardware stores?

It's possible. There are a bunch of different model variations that are available. Also, you may want to look into a local college agriculture extension office that would offer this service too.

I would venture to guess, they could test your samples and provide you with a lot more information than any moderately priced tester.
