How long does it take you to spread a yard of mulch? What types of mulch do you buy for $22/yard?

most of the time one yard takes about 15-20 min for just laying it, I use all kinds of mulch , the price of $50 a yard is for dark hard wood if they want the red or black it is about $10 more a yard.

Well, here's what I would do...
Charge the customer $60/hour for laying the mulch. Then charge them YOUR cost on the mulch + 10-15%.
Just my .02 worth... maybe Tim could tell you something different.

Hi
Here is what I do when mulching.
We will install mulch applications for $45.00 per yard materials included. Exception for Colored Mulches @ $55.00 and Exception for Single Cypress @ $55.00
This is the going rate for my area you will find lowballers doing it by the job they go look and say I can do it for $150 bucks and it takes 4 or 5 good buckets or 2 truck loads and 5 hours each for 2 guys. Have they made money? maybe some but
not really.
My way I use a mulch calculator;
500 sq ft of bed @ 2" thick = 3.1 cubic yds or 5 midsize truck loads (s-10). (for me itwould only be 1 truck load)
3.1 x $45 = $139.50
Option #2
Another way to figure would be to take total cost of materials needed x 2 = ?
I like my way better it looks more professional and customers like how it looks on paper.
Good Luck
Tim

Thanks for the input, Tim. What would you do about river pebble? Do you have a standard charge for that, too? ....per cubic yard, that is?

Yes but I buy the river rock from Pavestone Directly by the skid in bags. so the price is better. I try real hard to detour folks from using it inplace of standard mulch.
so I only sell it by the bag and don't offer installation of it.
I do use it in some landscape but only as a prop. Like a rock stream throught the middle of the beds or something like that.
Rock has its place and being used in place of mulch isn't one of them.
Hope I answered your question?

i am either pinestrawing or mulching a flower bed that is probaly 200 or a little more sq ft and i want to do it thick and in height(2in) for a lady i recently started doing her lawn(the one from my super bowl ad)
when i was doing her yard, i had noticed flower beds are bare, so i ask her about it, as a upsell, lol and got it
i think that would be about 12 bags or so. The price i was thinking was around $50-$60
what is the going rate for laying pinestraw or mulch
when i lay pinestraw ($3.29 a bale)<** store price, i charge $6-7 a bale to lay it
