looking to make a leaf box for my dump truck. Thinking 4 foot high plywood sides bring total truck to 9' tall. Any help would be great (photos). I get my 16hp loader back this weekend and then we play!!!
thanks will

I know we had a bunch of discussions on this in the past with pictures but I can't find it LOL

Here are some pictures. I'd love to see what you are designing. Keep us updated.

Just make sure there is enough air. A lot of people use a mesh top with the rest wood. It helps break it down and fill up better

Are you going to draw out any designs before you start fabricating it? I'd love to see what you are doing. Keep us posted.

Oh fascinating! What did you have to do to get it to start working again?

one of the push rod was bad (replaced all)
one head gasket
spark plugs
fuel filter
cleaned gas tank
fixed safety switch (no spark)
replaced the carb
all said and done I am into it for $800 about $200 more than I would like

Ok, so to mount my loader I added a shelf to my trailer and a crane to get it up there.

And I bought a broken lawn tractor for its easy empty grass catch. Modified it to "fit" my Z-turn today.
Man not needing to get off to empty the bagger is great will help with fall cleanups

If thats the total price then you got a steal. I been looking for one but anything bigger then 12hp is fetching $1500-$2000. I seen the smaller ones for half that but I dont have faith they could do what I want.

$800 is the total I was hoping less because I got it off ebay for $210 and not had a shop fix it (I just didn't have time to play)

The 16hp is heavy and hard to move around but man it has POWER

What a fantastic setup! It looks like you spent a lot of time perfecting all that! I bet with all of it working, your operation is a lot faster picking up leaves than in the past.

With all your experimentation of it last year, will you be doing anything differently this year when it comes to your setup or your operation?

I upgraded to two Redmax 8500 blowers WoW they move some air.
Got a 48" z-turn with blower.
I am hoping that jobs go faster so more money for me!!!

willshome, very nice man, looks real good..when I worked in lower Michigan we had a 24' box truck that my brother modified to accept the vac so it attached to the truck..like two hitch mounts you slid it into..and he came up with a way to unload it (cant dump) so they had a drum that was permanently attached to the truck somehow on the back right below the doors and a strong mess type tarp attached to the drum, an electric motor to turn the drum, and we would run the tarp to the front of the box then up to the top and back to the back on the cieling where it was permanently attached there too...we had pins & rods we put in on the corners or where the tarp changed directions on the front end of the box, top & bottom... anyway, when it was full we would pull the pins out, open the doors, latch them and hit the switch for the drum and the drum roll the leaves out as it rolled the tarp up...was really neat and saved us a sh** load of time loading & unloading. Its been a while since I was down there but I will see if my brother can snap a few photo's for me...

yeah he's checking the forums out & threads & stuff but his computor messed up on him so he will have to get registered on here later...he's also a master machanic..since the '80's so he's good at fixing stuff & fabricating. I've learned a lot through the years from him....a good asset to have when your equipments down...

A short video of how it works would be wild to see as well.

We see discussions on here every once in a while about if it's worth it or not to get the bigger powerful equipment.

Here is a great opportunity for you to experiment with how this new equipment effects your productivity and if you feel it was worth it.

yeah its pretty cool, I 'll talk to him probably tommarrow and see if maybe he can vidio it in action and take some close-up pic's of it too, I'm sure they are getting ready for clean-ups soon so he will have to go through everything on it anyway.

That is very interesting!

What initially got you to think about installing such a crane on there? Was it only to be used for the leaf loader or has it been used for other purposes as well?

the crane helps with snow blowers, logs, hook the corners of a tarp to lift debris..... saves my back

the crane helps with snow blowers

Where do you load the snow blowers into? The back of that truck or onto a trailer?

back of the truck. Bed sits to high for ramps with out using the winch on the headboard to drag them up
I carry 3 large two stage and 2 single stage snow blowers

Nice rig. Why do you carry around so many snowblowers?
Most of my jobs have walkways or garage doors.
I some times have a helper (or two) with me.
Some driveways are hard to plow with deep snow (no place to push)
I am very good at breaking snow blowers and don't have time to fix mid storm.

This might sound like too much, but would it be worth looking into getting a used lift gate that you could attach to the back of the truck?

I saw a hydraulic lift gate (http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2053587.m570.l1313.TR10.TRC0.A0.Xh ydraulic+lift+gate&_nkw=hydraulic+lift+gate&_sacat=0&_from=R40) on ebay for $100.
