View Full Version : How to get my website on first page of google

07-22-2012, 07:21 AM
Hey guys I have a website through intuit(I had a website for a year free), well I have my website made up, and it is on google.

How do I get it to show up on google for keywords such as "lawn care" or "lawn care in 17324", things like that. The only way I show up on the front page now is if I type pecks lawn.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Changing your page titles would be a good start.

here is a list of places to list you site (http://brocktonlawns.wordpress.com) make sure to "Leave a Reply" with your info it makes a great link

Thank you so much guys! This is very vaulable, I plan to use the internet as my primary advertisment, I'm still going to hand out some door hangers, and run an ad in the newspaper, but I want my website to be what brings 90% of my business.

07-22-2012, 02:03 PM
I've found that key words is the easiest and quickest way to get found. I'm always trying to make our website better, but I also take time off because you can't stare at the same site over and over.

07-22-2012, 02:24 PM
I found it to work quite well. Basically you need to load your site with any relevant keywords and cities or towns you service. Lawn care, landscape, lawn mowing, lawn repair,etc.,etc.

How do you exactly do that. I would really like my website to show up on the first page if "carlisle lawn care" was googled. I doubt I'll ever be first if Lawn care was googled but that would be nice.

I found it to work quite well. Basically you need to load your site with any relevant keywords and cities or towns you service. Lawn care, landscape, lawn mowing, lawn repair,etc.,etc.

so true write out a list of services then write out what each service is (Google reads sentences)

post photos on flickr.com with you site name and town name lawn care in title same with make a video and post it on youtube (slideshows work)

I spent to much time this winter backlinking but my 5 month old site is ranked #2 for my city now

When you Google yourSite.com how many results do you get?

07-22-2012, 02:57 PM
I have three that show up that go to different pages on my website.

I already made a flicker account and uploaded photos with names like lawn care and lawn service and have my website listed in my flicker info.

I haven't made a video yet.

Someone showed me a website that creates backlinks to your website, I tried that today.

WillsLawns.com About 1,100 results (0.17 seconds) that is down from like 1,800 need to work on that

Do you put your town name? and use photobucket.com (http://photobucket.com/) you can use the same photos
I haven't made a video yet.

use SocialMonkee (http://www.socialmonkee.com/index.php) it works the best.

07-22-2012, 03:14 PM
Yep social monkey is what I was using, how often do you put backlinks, and what kind of tags do you enter?

07-22-2012, 03:31 PM
lawn care lawn care service fall cleanup spring cleanup

BTW Carlisle great truck shows

07-22-2012, 03:35 PM
Haha, you been down here for the shows? I was at the truck show last year.

07-22-2012, 03:40 PM
How long should I make the slideshow for youtube?

07-22-2012, 03:44 PM
it's been a few years but yes
Great time we camped across the street (I think they built houses where that camp ground was)

07-22-2012, 03:49 PM
I think about a min. is good
here is a video I did just to get the link
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ZV7_CoGg1NE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

07-22-2012, 03:55 PM
I don't remember a campground, must have been a long time ago lol.

What kind of pictures should I put in the video, just ones off of google?

07-22-2012, 04:02 PM
your photos
you working, your tools, truck, jobs you have done
it's been about 7 years

07-22-2012, 04:46 PM
Lol, right now I don't have any work that I have done.

07-22-2012, 05:16 PM
How long did it take you to get number 1 like that on google. When I type in lawn care all that pops up is companies like truegreen and lawndoctor, then just a bunch of articles, so I know my competition isn't doing to well with internet advertising. My ultimate goal would to be on the front page when lawn care is searched. A more likley goal, I would like to me first or second for "carlisle lawn care" "Gardners lawn care" or "boiling spring lawn care" How would I go about doing that.

When doing backlinks would I just continue to add tags such as lawn care, boiling springs lawn care, gardners lawn care and carlisle lawn care?

You are targeting the wrong keywords. How are you going to help someone across the country from you? Why do you want to rank for lawn care? You need to rank for the cities that you service not nationally. That is why those other guys rank nationally, because they are nationwide companies.

07-22-2012, 06:47 PM
Thats what i'm asking about, I wasn't exactly sure what to tag. I did a back link today and my keywords were "carlisle lawn care" "Gardners lawn care" "mount holly lawn care" "Boiling springs lawn care" "local lawn care" and "17324 lawn care"

07-22-2012, 07:46 PM
most people Google their town name and (lawn care service or other service they are looking for). So if you lived in Boston it would be "Boston lawn care service" so you want to have your service area in you link/photo
Carlisle, Mount holly springs, dillsburg, aspers, Gardners, Pa 17324

what you do A.K.A keywords
Lawn care, aeration, dethatching, spring, fall and storm cleanup, gutter cleaning, seeding, snow removal, mowing, grass cutting

and who you are

Don't put every town or service in every time but always your site

07-22-2012, 07:51 PM
Thanks will, you have been very helpful.

07-22-2012, 08:08 PM
Hey will, I was looking at your wordpress blog, I want to make one, but I can't figure it out, its rather confusing.

07-22-2012, 08:15 PM
I think wordpress is a pain. why do you want one? lets see if I can help whats up?

07-22-2012, 08:17 PM
I read an article that stemmed off a youtube video someone sent me earlier, the article saids wordpress was an essential element in getting good ranks.

07-22-2012, 08:26 PM
Why do you think I gave you a hard time about posting on my wordpress just trying to help:D Give me your link to your photobucket and flickr and I will put your photo links on my wordpress "backlinking your backlinks"

btw my wordpress is already indexed by Google "more powerful backlink"

07-22-2012, 08:30 PM

07-22-2012, 08:40 PM

at the top of the page on the right you will see "Quick Links" click on in it then you will see edit signature

07-22-2012, 08:45 PM
Thanks again will, I really appreciate it.

07-22-2012, 08:56 PM
Thanks again will, I really appreciate it.

any time
btw you don't want it to say "Peck's Lawn Care" but "Carlisle lawn care" linking to your site

07-22-2012, 08:59 PM
Okay, thanks again! I have so many more questions but I don't really want to barrage you with all them.

07-22-2012, 09:14 PM
I don't really want to barrage you with all them.
I just learned this stuff this past winter. got a ton of help here so just paying it forward
So whats next?
BTW label all your photos

07-22-2012, 09:21 PM
Well nothing more for tonight, its time to catch some ZZZs

07-23-2012, 06:56 AM
Gained 3 more search results since yesterday when searching my domain in google.

07-23-2012, 07:18 AM
that great
it can take time for google to see what you are doing

07-23-2012, 08:00 AM
What hosting site do you use for your wordpress blog?

07-23-2012, 12:00 PM
So great news, My $12 car door magnets were worth it. Had a guy stop in at my parents business to pay a bill, he saw my magnet and asked if I could give him a quote! Man i'm excited.

He said he already had a couple lawn care companies give him quotes, but he uses my parents business, so that gives me good credibility.

07-23-2012, 02:18 PM
So I switched from intuit to bluehost, I already made up a new site, however I can't transfer my domain for 27 days. Anyone know a way to point my current domain to my new site?

The Cleaning Doctor
07-23-2012, 03:14 PM
I have never worked with Intuit but most registrars allow you to specify a DNS for the domain. That is how you point it at your hosting.

I always register my domain at a registrar that is different from the host.

07-23-2012, 06:57 PM
I figured it out, It was actually really simple.

07-23-2012, 08:33 PM
really simple.
I have been called that before

07-23-2012, 08:48 PM

Has anyone tried google adwords? Is it worth it?

07-23-2012, 09:00 PM
google adword is good I got $100 free from my web host it helped but didn't you say there is only one other lawn business with a site just out link them

07-23-2012, 09:17 PM
Yeah, there is only one lawn care company that actually has a website other than truegreen and those stupid companies.

The Cleaning Doctor
07-23-2012, 11:07 PM
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but there is a lot of work to be done on that site. Not that it is all that bad but I do not see you getting any work. Your phone number is black and in the bottom left corner of the site.

This is exactly why you should hire someone. It is really not that much unless you contact one of the big name companies.

07-24-2012, 06:31 AM
I just changed hosts today, My site is no where near complete yet.

07-24-2012, 06:41 AM

Sprinkler Repair checking in.

Hey, I made very few friends here when I used to post on GF. I admit, some of my replies to the knuckle dragger's breaking my ba**ls were rightly deemed "arrogant."

Dammit, I did it again! I'm going to try to be nice to those who feel anyone selling anything is polluting the sanctity of a forum, no matter how much free info they give away.

Here is the scoop:
Google no longer allows guys like me to just choose a term like "Chicago lawn care" and take it away from companies that actually cut grass in that city.

Someone referenced an older video of mine at the beginning of the thread, where I show my rankings for that term. On 4/23/12 I was still #1 after many years. On 4/24 that site was gone. Not 2nd page, gone.

On 4/24 Big G rolled out the Penguin update. Basically this algorithm change penalized websites with "shady" link strategies, of which I am guilty. This is bad for guys like me, but really good for guys that truly have a lawn business in *city*.

The Penguin wants REAL people ranking their websites, not AdSense guys like me. This is a HUGE opportunity for everybody here. If you know how to correctly interlink your FaceBook|YouTube|LinkedIn|Twitter, ranking for REAL businesses is now far easier.

I'll explain more about that later, but right now, due to the Penguin's love of YouTube, you can get on the 1st page of Google in 24 hours.

08-29-2012, 01:52 PM

You do not need a website to do this, but it helps...

08-30-2012, 01:42 PM

I do this method. Only one in my city who makes videos.

I actually got a call from a guy who saw my video. Hilarious!

09-04-2012, 05:19 PM
If you got a call, then ramp it up.

I mean, even in big cities the word "lawn care city" might be tough to rank, but "tree trimming your city", "lawn care companies your city" "lawn service service companies your city" are generally yours to take.

If you follow these tips, it is WAY easier now to rank on Google (via YouTube) then ever before.

Yeah, ya gotta like me on FB to get all 7 free vids, but 30 seconds of your time took all day on my end to give it to ya
